We are very happy that the organizations we have selected for this fundraiser have multiple methods of donation, as this makes donation more accessible to a wider audience. However, because all commission prices are in euro, this also means that there might be different currency rates at play and we might not always know whether the full price of a commission has been covered. To deal with the differences in rates we have created a currency conversion policy which we have detailed below.
More information below!
Fixed conversion rates
We are utilizing fixed conversion rates for the exchange between euros (EUR) and American dollars (USD), Canadian dollars (CAD), and the British pound (GBP).
Most of the organizations we have listed have the option to donate in euros, and likewise, our contributing creators have also set their price list in this currency. However, there are a few organizations where the American dollar is the only accepted currency, or organizations where it is possible to donate in USD, CAD, or GBP in addition to the euro.
We understand you might be more comfortable donating in your original currency or that it might not be possible for you to donate otherwise. As we expect for the majority of our donors to originate from a country where any of these four currencies are available, and considering the conversion rate among them has been rather stable in relation to other currencies, we have fixed the rates so that it is easier to keep track of donations on our end, and so that it is easier for you to make the conversions when you donate.
Conversion rates
For the organizations accepting USD, CAD, and GBP
1 EUR = 1.10 USD
1 EUR = 1.40 CAD
1 EUR = 0.84 GBP
For the organizations only accepting USD
1 USD = 1.25 CAD
1 USD = 0.76 GBP
How to use the conversion rate?
Examples:
You are commissioning Creator X for a piece worth 35 EUR and the organization you have selected has the option to donate in your original currency, CAD. Using the conversion rate, you will be donating 49 CAD.
You are commissioning Creator Y for a piece worth 45 EUR and the organization you have selected only accepts donations in USD. Using the conversion rate, you will donate 49.5 USD.
Notes on the fixed conversion rates
The conversion rates do not apply when the payment system in the organization has enabled services like PayPal, which do conversions automatically. In this case, all you must do is provide proof of donation by screenshotting the amount donated in the original currency and the conversion PayPal has done.
Mobile conversion rates
There are also cases where the organizations we have selected offer the option to donate in four other currencies: the Polish zloty (PLN), the Swedish kroner (SEK), the Norwegian kroner (NOK), the Czech kroner (CKZ), and the Swiss franc (CHF). We do not anticipate a large majority of donations in these currencies, so we have decided to use a mobile conversion rate. This means we will be consulting the XE Exchange Rate to determine whether the cost of the art you are commissioned has been covered by your donation.
How to use the mobile conversion rate?
When you donate with one of the mentioned currencies (or another), make sure that time and date are included in your screenshot of proof of donation. Additionally, though it is not mandatory, we recommend that you take a screenshot of the exchange rate on the XE website at the moment you donate. We are able to check historical conversion rates but having your screenshot ensures more transparency on both your end and ours.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our organizing team if you have any questions or need further clarification!
