Look at this little cutie - her name is Lola and she belongs to Lex. 

Sometimes, ya just feel like taking your dog or cat and hitting the road in something like this.

It’s small, but it’s packed with a lot of the comforts of home in such a pretty way.

The bed turns into 2 comfy sofas. 

Nice sturdy table & chairs, plus a TV.

She was able to fit in a toilet and a shower, it’s not fancy, but it serves the purpose.

But, wait. Lex did such a good job with Lola, she decided to buy Delilah. Here she is after she was freshly painted.

On the right is what Delilah looked like when Lex bought her, and the left is Delilah undergoing her conversion.

A van is a much smaller space than a bus and Lex decided to go with a more earthy decor this time.

2018 dodge promaster 2500 conversion details

The usual exterior slide-out table was swapped for an interior one, that neatly stowed under the bed when not in use. Directly underneath, we put a dual-zone cooler on slide-out rails to allow for more space flexibility.

The extra head-room allowed us to bump the kitchenette height up to 36” and build dual hatch cabinets along the driver’s side wall. The bed platform was also raised to 30” for a comfortable sitting height, creating ample storage below. We finished the van off with facing bench seats (one of which stored a portable toilet), a subway tile backsplash and ambient lighting around the ceiling and beneath the cabinets to illuminate the kitchen space.

Two features in this off-grid van (besides the MASSIVE power system) that are extra exciting are the under-counter, horizontal refrigerators/freezers and, brace yourself, the inside shower that recirculates/reuses water and purifies it with a UV light such that you can shower indefinitely with two gallons of water.

Why aren’t we putting water recirculating showers like that in our regular homes right now?

Okay, so the answer to my big question above is water regulations, namely, water in a shower must match drinking water quality.  These laws vary from state to state in the USA, meaning anyone trying to building such a device might only be able to sell it in some states, and California has such high water standards that it’s just too expensive to bring this type of product to market in that state at all.  Wow.

The van folks appear to have either sourced theirs from Europe, where they are ahead of us on such innovation, or possibly even building their own based on open-source developments in Finland.
