A heart attack.
A minor one, he’d been assured but Alexander couldn’t help but think this was the wake-up call Sarah needed before anything worse happened. The woman was in her forties, smoked like a train, almost always yelled and he was pretty sure she didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘relax’.
He’d just finished visiting her, bringing a few gifts and some things she’d asked for, and was planning to go back home (it wasn’t like he had plans to meet anyone) when he was mobbed by about four teenagers, one of whom had a slightly slack look in their eye he knew pretty well, one of the susceptible ones.
In the end it took a full on ‘look over there!’ distraction before he could leg it down the hallway and hide behind a reception desk. He heard the teens run by and breathed out a sigh of relief before footsteps behind him had him turning and looking up with a sheepish grin, “Umm, please don’t tell anyone I’m down here...”
