Asher had originally left Peach Hollow for the military because his entire world being turned around by his family from a situation that was completely out of his control. Never in his life did he think he’d be back and living alone in his childhood home. He didn’t communicate with a lot of the people from his past, especially some of the more painful ones. Most of his time had been spent at the bar, gym, home, and work. Asher had been honorably discharged from the military for what he described as ‘ not being able to handle the job he’d been trained to do’ and was ashamed to lie to others that he’d never been discharged.
Looking around, Ian realized how trapped he felt in his own house. The walls of his own house still felt foreign to him and the emptiness of it all didn’t help. He’s suffered from abandonment issues since he was a child, and his trust in anything last for a long period of time was clouded. His military life involved cluttered barracks, busy make-shift hospitals and moments that kept his mind hyper-focused without having time to think of the bad.
He didn’t know where he wanted to go but it needed to be out of his house. The sun was still at its mid-day position, and Asher decided to surprise his friend that was a bartender at the local country club who was really supportive and one of the few that knew about Asher’s secret. He arrived at a time that was low on traffic, and the sight of his friend brought a smile to his face. Asher was happy that a drink had been waiting for him along with an open seat in front of his friend’s station.
45 minutes and three drinks later, Asher felt a lot better. He’d been looking at his phone when he spotted a familiar face at the end of the bar. Ian Calloway, someone who Asher knew very well and someone he had quite the past with. Asher had been beginning to suspect that Ian had been avoiding him but hoped he was wrong. “Hello, Ian.” He was already tipsy, and had downed his fourth drink and began putting his wallet and phone back into his pocket. “You work here, don’t you?” Ian working at the country club completely slipped his mind. “Bet you’re surprised to see me.”
