Another side character who was just supposed to add some life and depth to part of the story decided he actually has plans. Awesome. Also hasn’t decided to fill me in on said plans. Just made my MC owe him a favor (which is a big cultural deal) yay.

When the character you invented to do literally ONE thing decides not only to stick around and become important, but ALSO become your favorite...
Convos with my Characters
Me: *scribbling on my paper* huh. I’m going to need someone to accomplish this task…I don’t have enough people.
New Side Character: *waves* “Hi, I can do it.”
Me: “Oh perfect, yeah. Nice to meet you, I’ll use you there.”
~Three Chapters Later~ Me: wow, my rebellion needs more than four people…
Side Character: “Hey, me again. I think I’d be a perfect fit…”
Me: “Holy crap you’re right. I’m glad you showed up back then, yeah. You’re perfect! I guess you need a name.”
~Ten Chapters Later~
*Named Side Character is happily married, a dynamic part of the team, has a full back story, and is my favorite character in the novel.*
Antagonist: *Looks over my shoulder at the happy life before me*
“Yeah. I’m gonna kill him myself. You know that right?”
Convos with my Characters
Me: what's your motivation? Protagonist: I'm codependent and need people to need me-we're gonna fix that by the end right? Me: that makes so much sense! yeah no worries, we'll get there. Me: what's your motivation Antagonist: *stares* Me: dude seriously, help me out Antagonist: *takes a drink* Me: well at least tell me about your past? Antagonist: yeah-we aren't gonna talk about that. Me: dude you gotta give me something to work with. You don't have to be the antagonist to *me* Antagonist: you're the author, you figure it tf out.
