Repost from @sow_much_more Beetroot went from being my nightmare crop to being one of my biggest successes this year. Last year I had all kinds of trouble with beetroot. Mainly it being dug up 😼 but the net result was that I didn’t get much of a crop. This year I have been harvesting beetroot all year and we have all we can eat from a really small patch of earth. The difference? @charles_dowding’s multi sowing approach. 3-4 seeds in a module, plant out the whole module and harvest the biggest one first. It turns out that beetroot really like being next to their friends. In nature we hear so much about competition and not a lot about cooperation. The truth is that cooperation is the foundation of everything. It starts with mutually beneficial relationships (symbiosis, but we could call them friendships?). In the west we don’t include ourselves in this relationship. Just like the plants have a symbiosis with the fungi, so to do we have a symbiosis with the plants. We need to recognise and reestablish this friendship if both us and our plants are to thrive. Growing is not simply a task that must be completed, but rather a ritual to strengthen our ties to the earth. Happy Friday lovelies 💚. . . . . . . . . #letsbefriends #cooperationnotcompetition #ecology #beetroot #allotmentuk #allotmentlife #vegetablegarden #vegpatch #ediblegarden #growyourownfood #growyourown #gyo #greenthumb #kitchengarden #nodig #sustainableliving #urbanorganicgardener #gardenactivist #growfoodnotlawns #selfsufficient #homesteading #mygardentoday #gardening #potager #agroecologia https://www.instagram.com/p/CHF4TD1Fo-1/?igshid=1dp6wpjrkl5m8
