Cooza Ackermann and Laban Vanot!

This is interesting, because Laban is yet another clairvoyant character, and Cooza is yet another character with something to hide. Specifically, all of his emotions. All the time, apparently. At least whenever there are any non-Carl witnesses present.

Cooza always puts on a sort of...Lukewarm Cheerful face? Just a flat smile and Big Bright Wide Eyes, and that expression rarely changes very much unless there is some reason he needs it to. [Such as suddenly being Very Stern And Serious when trying to convey that he is an opponent worth respecting, or laughing and being Extra Joyful to lift the mood and convince other people that Everything Is Fine while he is, in fact, actually currently holding a pissed off venomous snake by the jaw, for example.] And when his demeanor changes, it changes on a dime. Instantaneously. It's actually a bit unsettling, because it just becomes so clear so quickly that it is fake. [I talked more about it in this old post here.] I guess it makes sense that Cooza makes a habit of behaving that way though, because Cooza is a professional performer/entertainer. It's his job to be Infectiously Cheerful.

But it would not work on Laban. Laban can see your whole entire soul when he looks through his weird little spyglass thing, buddy. Just ask Phi. Laban can also just Generally Sense The Truth, his bullshit meter will go off immediately whenever someone tries to hide anything from him.

Cooza's not hiding anything bad though, in fact it's exactly the opposite -- he's just trying to make people happy and Be Entertaining. So Laban would have no reason to spill the secret to anyone else because he's not an asshole and Cooza is not a threat. He might, however, wait until it's only him and Cooza alone in a room somewhere, and make some sympathetic remark to Cooza himself about how "It must be pretty taxing to keep up that happy facade all the time, even when you're not remotely happy yourself. You have impressive mental fortitude, my friend! But don't you think it's kind of unhealthy to put everybody else's emotions above your own all the time, even when you're not putting on an actual show? You're a little bit of a workaholic!" or something. Cooza would laugh it off and deny it immediately, What On Earth Are You Talking About Lol, I'm Clearly Just A Cheerful Sort Of Guy Haha, I Emote Completely Normally, and then Laban would point at Carl and say "Your bird friend agrees with me, you know." because Laban can talk to animals.

Laban explains that he is The Best Fortuneteller In The World™, he can See Your Soul And Also The Future and also Animals Speak To Him. Rocks And Leaves Can Speak To Him, Also. Cooza is torn between being skeptical and immediately thinking of how Clio does Weird [And Scary] Obviously Magic Shit sometimes So Perhaps He Should Maybe Humor The Shirtless Crazy Guy Just A Little Bit Here.

Laban continues to speak to Carl to prove his Clairvoyant Legitimacy, and that is how Cooza learns that whenever Carl says "Kisses!" in Human Speak, he is actually saying something very different in Bird Speak and that explains why Carl supposedly thought Aggressively Pecking You In The Head must be what a kiss is because why else would he always do that right after saying that word. Huh.
