    This was better than she had expected. She had never really paid attention to sports; mainly because ever since the INCIDENT, the reminder was too much. Though, there was something about this. That picture. The name she saw. Curiosity got the better of her, and she wasn’t disappointed.

SURPRISE. It was the emotion she felt when she saw him stare back at her, then made a hand motion. She wasn’t quite sure what it meant, but she shyly lifts a hand and waves back. Was he saying hello? She could only assume at this point. 

             Perhaps he wasn’t even motioning to her at all. And she looked rather silly.

The only way she’d find out is if he came to her personally, but she stands up along with everyone. Jeannie didn’t really want to look strange just sitting there the whole time. Hands come up to rub against one another, that dull ache flaring up. She’d linger for a little while longer.

                     She didn’t want to impose.

Mary only frowned a moment, eyebrows drawing together – she was doing a good job of how much she wanted to hit him, wanted to strangle him, and it didn’t show in her face as she reached forward, chewing at her thumbnail, to snag the pen and paper. TELL ME, she wrote. Huge, curving letters. It was irritating to keep making such a show of it.

Please, she signed then, and flashed him a grin as if delighted to have picked it up. She already felt the muscles in her cheeks ache.

what types of books does he like?

he loves classic literature!! but he also loves crime thrillers. but it’s usually not as fun because once he figures out the plot point he can solve it before he even reaches the part ....

There was no way Mary could fake her handwriting convincingly enough. It had been sheer luck she’d hidden her look of surprise – that are-you-shitting-me stare – with her face turned towards her shoes. Playing shy. Fucking hell.

The sign she knew was limited to say the least, and there was a sharp difference in being able to tell henchmen when to get her the fuck out of a situation and being able to carry on a conversation. She much preferred her own brand of Morse code, anyway.

But when she’d crawled in off the street with the suspiciously slow roll-by of a police car still burning in her mind, she’d only wanted to latch onto the first sucker she could find. The kid was the only one in the place.

She looked at him now, the expectant expression, the pen and paper held towards her, and considered pretending not to know how. I can’t, whining to someone who couldn’t hear her. She wondered how often her employees wished the same. Reluctant, she took the pen, set the paper down on the table.

WILL YOU HELP ME? she wrote, carefully and slowly. God, she made herself sick sometimes.
