Copey: The Eighth Dwarf Who Just Deals With It
So, this is going to bug me until I actually get it out.
Dear Person At The Hotline I Called Last Night:
I realize your job probably sucks. You have to listen to people like... me all day. I hope you were actually trained. But as someone who attempted to make use of your service (as you said, it’s what you’re there for) I would like to offer you a few of bits of advice.
1. If someone who is emotionally distraught is attempting to say something or explain something, maybe don’t interrupt them?
2. If someone tells you they have depression and are having trouble taking care of themselves, maybe take that into account before you tell them they should be submitting five job applications a day.
3. Telling me that sometimes we have to struggle before we find happiness is not actually helpful for everyone. I am 26 and have been dealing with this bullshit for nearly two decades now. I am /tired/ of struggling. That’s one of the reasons I called you.
4. Don’t think I don’t noticed the way we switched from “I had a fight with my dad about how trans people should be treated and I haven’t actually come out to him” to “well tell me about your job”.
5. I realize that sometimes people might have off days. But given that I was /worse/ after talking to you than I was before and I had to take the day off work because the bridge I walk over would have been /too fucking tempting/ maybe work on that. Take a refresher course on “talking to suicidal people” or something.
so I was going through some old stuff the other day, and came across my box of “captain america: the winter soldier” valentines. you know the ones. I’d gotten them the week after valentines day but man, did they ever save my life. see, I was having a real bad semester. waking up in the morning with no idea what day it was or what classes I had or what assignments were due. days were just running together something awful. so, well, yeah I had these valentines with no one to give them to, and I got this idea. I started getting a valentine and writing down the day of the week, the date, and a little schedule or to do list on it, one every day, and making them out proper to with heart stickers and a little tattoo in it. so in the morning when I woke up I’d have cap or sam or nat or bucky telling me how great I was, right next to what day it was and what I needed to do that day, and a little treat just ‘cause. and yeah it might be hokey, and maybe a little sad giving myself that box of valentines, but it really did save my life that semester, and after a while time stopped running together so bad, and I didn’t need them so much. I still have some now, saved in their little box. lemme tell you though, next february when I’m sure we’ll have a fresh batch of captain america: civil war valentines I’m getting a box, just in case.
Writing has always been the way i could express myself, it also helped me into becoming a better person. I want to make a story. A story about those who feel sad Those who are pushed down and for those who are found useless/ worthless in this society It could be a love story It could be a tragedy It could be anything and yet it can also be nothing at the same time Casualties are made everywhere and discoveries are just right around the corner Live for the day And look forward to tomorrow Because tomorrow will always be different Because you can change your future for yourself
Changes
It's really funny how life changes so much sometimes. Like as soon as you have something all figured out (i.e. moving to Missouri to be with the guy you're in love with) something happens and a switch is flipped and you're left doing something completely different (i.e. breaking up with him and surprisingly being okay with it). Life is a serious rollercoaster and I'm not sure that I will ever get to a point where there are no twists, turns, or loops and I'm okay with that fact.
Coping with it #3
It's like those little Christmas snowflake shaky-shaky crystal balls;
It used to get a lil shake once in a while to then stand and accumulate dust on a nice little shelf that has candles and porcelain dogs and the snowflakes would settle and create a white carpet of molecules joined in a new way for each shake.
Now it has been stolen by a sticky toddler with ADHD, who's on a carousel, at a neon rave party, to the sound of a dozen car alarms that has been set off with perfectly unsynchronized timing. And booze. There's lots of booze too. The neon lights keep flashing and the toddler with his sticky pop-tart fingers keeps shaking and shaking my Christmas snowflake shaky-shaky.
Let the night end. Tuck in the toddler, drug him if you need. Put the shaky-shaky in a place where he can't reach it. Sing us a lullaby, let us sober up and let my snowflakes settle. Please.
