Thoughts on The Mentalist 7x9
The opening. Peterson is such an Ass.
I love the continuation here as well.
First that in the “previously on The Mentalist” section they show both the plot relevant points from previous episodes AND the argument Jane and Lisbon had. Here’s what happened in the past that’s relevant to today’s case and here’s what you’re favourite lovebirds were doing last time we saw them. Second, that the episode picks up right from “The Whites of His Eyes”. This isn’t a week into the future where Jane and Lisbon are still feuding or have patched things up off screen. This is the same evening. Lisbon’s pissed and Jane’s invited her out for ice cream on the Austin strip to talk things over. She’s agreed, presumably, because she loves him and wants to find a way to work things out so they can continue working together as both partners and lovers.
Jane asking Wiley to keep tabs on Peterson for Abbott’s sake. Jane really does care about Abbott. Again, as I said before, I have a hard time seeing Jane doing this for any of his and Lisbon’s previous bosses. I know part of it is the political and career implications, but I think there’s also genuine concern there. Jane honestly likes Abbott and doesn’t want to see him go down and be forced to deal with a new, probably worse boss, because of something that neither of them believes to be wrong. I love how Wiley gets so into helping Jane. Doesn’t flinch, doesn’t care about how sketchy or technically illegal some of the stuff he asks him to do is, just goes and does it out of loyalty and a sense of adventure.
Classic Lisbon. “Jane this is serious.” Translation: “Why are you taking a nap?”
And also, “How did I fall for a man who upon hearing news that has drastic implications for all us decides to the best course of action is to take some time off and chill out?”
I’m glad Abbott finally filled Lena in. I understand his reasons for telling her, but he needs her right now and it’s always a good idea to come clean with the person you love.
Abbott’s description of Jane to Lena: LOL! That is both the most accurate, twisted, and naughty description of Jane I’ve ever heard (definitely within the context of the show). And also true.
The next part – my heart. So endearing. I also like the parallels they draw between Abbott and Jane’s actions throughout the episode. I feel that Jane is also making a point about why Abbott was originally wrong to do what he did to the CBI but that Jane forgives him.
“Okay. We’ll do it your way.” – Said no previous superior dealing with Jane EVER. (Besides Lisbon that is)
Cho. Cho oh Cho. The jewel of the series really. I love of Lisbon’s goes all Momma Bear and tries to get Cho and Wiley to reconsider being a part of the case and how Cho not at all subtly reminds that he’s worked with her and Jane for over a decade and there are few things he hasn’t and wouldn’t do where he’s concerned and that you can’t phase him at this point with anything.
I love it when Jane says phrases like, “Make some calls,” and “Old Friend” or makes some sort of reference to his past. You know things are about to get good.
Pete voicing what we’re all thinking; Jane completely ignoring it, not wanting to deal with the issue at all despite the fact he knows it’s got to come to a head at some point.
Pete’s gonna help him pull off the gag. Yes!
Jane trying to get close enough to Peterson to grab his phone by commenting on his attire and then Peterson bringing it on himself by grabbing Jane by the neck and trying to intimidate him. He’s so going to get it. Wiley’s commitment to the job. Awww poor baby. I love how parental and affection Jane and Lisbon are when they show up the next morning and see he’s pulled an all nighter.
Vega undercover oh yeah. Did anyone else feel that Peterson and the legislative director were overacting to the Extreme from their first conversation over the phone? Seriously.
The Peterson House banter was fabulous. Loved the CBI Team vibe. All that scene needed was Rigsby eating something he shouldn’t and Van Pelt chiming in with a snappy comeback and sideways glance.
This episode should get a series award for The Most Times Jane sat/lay on a sofa/couch while everyone around him promptly freaked out and tried to do something useful/productive immediately. (And still got in time for a banana. Classic Jane)
The use of music and timing was really well done in this episode same as the last one.
HA! The cat! I love how the photos from CBS were real and actually from the episode instead of just random or behind the scenes pics. Abbott laughing at Peterson. He’s so loving it. This has to be my favourite side of Abbott. And then within the span of a minute he flips to “I’m not messing around/I mean business do not mess with me” and Dunbar plays it so so well.
Sam was the legislative director!!! I totally didn’t catch that! What!
I loved seeing genuinely concerned Jane!
Wega flirting with Vega initiating! Love it! “I don’t want a waffle. I wanna dance.” Ohhhhh
Lisbon continuing to hide her relationship with Jane in front of her trusted coworkers. Not.
