The radio was on the classic rock station in the background and rain pattered on the glass of the window. It was Freddy’s day off and they were having a lazy day. To be fair, they had a lot of lazy days. But the past few weeks, Mia spent a most of her time trying to find a job for herself. Freddy would reassure her to take her time and not let herself get frustrated. Her therapist always told her to start working when she was ready. Well Mia was ready to feel normal again. She still grieved and there were still nights she had trouble sleeping. But she couldn’t keep moping about it.
She wasn’t thinking about any of that now because all she could focus on was Freddy’s lips on her neck. Both of their shirts were on the floor. Mia had her hand tangled in his hair. She couldn’t think of anything else she’d rather be doing. Until her phone rang.
“Hold on. Two seconds.” Mia breathed out, rolling out from under Freddy. She heard him protest and she pinched his side. “It could be someone calling back about an application.” She grabbed her phone and answered. “Hello?” Mia’s expression turned to one of shock as she listened to the voice on the phone. She could barely process the words being spoken to her. After barely a minute, she hung up and chucked the phone away from her. It bounced off of the mattress before landing on the floor. She sat up and covered her mouth. Wanting to cry or scream but not capable of doing either.
