Ok, let’s have a debate!
Was Copy-X in Megaman Zero evil?
INFO DUMP FOR CONTEXT:
For those unaware of the lore of the Megaman Zero series of games, Copy-X is an “exact” copy of the original X made by a child prodigy named Ciel. He was initially intended as nothing more than a new body for X’s soul, but X wouldn’t accept it for various reasons. This intern led to Copy-X (now his own reploid) being named leader of the last human civilization on the planet and basically being tasked with keeping humanity safe and happy.
After that, everything went to hell.
Long story short, an energy crisis saw Copy-X prioritize humans over reploids and forced them into what was basically slave labor. Anybody who disagreed or fought back would immediately be labeled a maverick and killed.
———ACTUAL DISCUSSION STARTS HERE———
Ok, so as we all (should) know, reploids are functionally identical to humans. They learn and grow with experience over time the same as us, with the slight difference that reploids can be preprogrammed with information IE: they don’t have to learn to walk and talk.
Now let’s look at Copy-X, a reploid preprogrammed with a directive to keep humanity happy and healthy with absolutely no prior experience for a guiding conscience to form. Oh yeah, plus the fact that he had to fill the shoes of the most legendary reploid to ever exist. No pressure.
With this in mind, is Copy-X really evil?
(Btw, please keep in mind that the European and American translations of the game took some... “liberties” with the dialogue translations. If you’re going to quote Copy-X, please make sure he actually, CANNONICALLY, said it.)
