@coracaohidra || Prelude. Crossroads
“Kabane-kun, I’ll leave everything to you, then. Please return the key to my office when you’re done with everything...”
The heels clacked on the black and white marble tiles, arranged so much like a chess board, each click of heel meeting floor growing more and more distant. The dark haired, dark eyed boy with a young face leaned back in the office chair, his glasses doing the same on the bridge of his nose. The employee ID stated his name, birthday, and the small logo denoting the IT department. Kabane, his family name, 26 years old, blood type O, Single, no life. His fingers went for the ID attached with a small alligator clip, tugging it off the pocket of the light blue button down he was wearing.
It was after-hours at the office now, the lights slowly shutting down around him as the last vestiges of liveliness left the office space of the corporation in a hurry in anticipation for those after work drinking sessions which so often lead to obnoxious, drunken karaoke. He was new at the office - only having two months under his belt in this new environment. Social convention had dictated that he join his superiors and coworkers in aforementioned parties, but today was a big day. Today, a virus had infiltrated the office computer systems, jamming productivity regarding certain accounts. He had assured his immediate superior that he would take care of it. It would be him in the building after hours - which, while it was not unheard of, was still a rare occurrence regarding the general population of the corporate building...and perhaps the night-time janitor.
He set the ID on the table, and sighed, arms growing limp on the arm rests. It was exhausting, keeping it up for so long like this. He closed his eyes. Just a bit of a rest while he waited.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
The boy opened his eyes, the hint of color beneath the darkness of those eyes - of heterochromatic hues... too distinctive to be allowed to show. He glanced at the screen, the sputter of life in the flickering luminescent monitor seeming to drain away into darkness. He smiled, pleased at the unfolding of events which he had anticipated.
“As expected... “
He smiled, reaching into his pocket for a slender flash drive which he plugged into the computer swiftly, Door number one had opened.
The screen returned to view. The information contained here was merely a piece of the greater puzzle to be solved - and solved quickly. He dragged whatever he could find, perusing with greatest efficiency he could muster the most relevant information. The financials had suggested this within the first week. First the extraction of the profiles of those involved in the software...a project that had been hidden in the corporate infrastructure - and then... next to come...was the location of his target. He was to extract the target from the deduced location as a matter of security. The software and its manufacturer, in the wrong hands... would surely destabilize everything the Vongola family had sought to build.
He pulled the flash drive way, securing it in his pocket as he headed to the next floor. More research would be needed... and for that, higher access in the floors above.
❝ You look a little sad. Any reason why? ❞
“Kikyo-san. I have a very important question to ask you.”
