Saw where some critics who had advance copies of Axiom’s End’s sequel, Truth of the Divine, state that no, they do not actually fuck in the sequel ToT shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up considering how amygdalines are but... man I sure was curious to find out how tf something like Ampersand would actually get nasty with a human lmao. So guess “the one where they fuck” was just a joke after all

On Human/Amygdaline Relationships (spoilers)

I think due to their strict social hierarchies, and how they don’t verbally express love, a human in a bond to an amygdaline could probably get their poor earth heart hurt tbh... the miscommunications and way an amygdaline’s polyamorous relationships work is just a recipe for disaster for a human I bet. Heck, though she found it nice, when Ampersand was comforting her he spoke on it as a sense of duty over her, seemingly seeing her as an interspecies underling, yeah? Acting on a sense of duty to the established hierarchies isn’t going to be very romantic to a human, even if action is the way an amygdaline expresses care for someone in their phyle. It’s very different from the extremly verbal and emotional human way of showing love; even a human that uses action as a love language is going to be more expressive verbally than an amygdaline, and certainly won’t see it as a sense of ‘duty’ to the established roles. 

And doesn’t Ampersand still have at least one living amygdaline symphyle (not how you spell it is it lol) left? If they showed up and were affectionate- in a way that an amygdaline could never be with a human- jealousy and feeling of inadequacy abound. Ouch. 

Point is I think it’s gonna be a rough, bumpy ride for Ampersand and Cora being bound to each other, and I’m curious and interested to see how it plays out... if Cora can take the knowledge of being bound and not compare it to a human romantic relationship, but something much much different and open, maybe things’ll be less hard. But if she tried to apply her humanity to it I feel like she might get hurt. Heck, maybe as a human myself I’m already applying too much humanity to the idea of a bond like that... hhhh october is so far away.
