@narniaincolor members challenge: 1 relationship ↳ Cor and Aravis
I’m Cold (Cor x Aravis)
I was going through my documents and I found this that I wrote in November of last year. I figured since it’s been ages since I’ve posted (sorry about that) I would go ahead and share it with you. It's a Modern AU. I just did a quick read through so if there are any mistakes, my apologies. I remember now that the reason I didn’t post it right away was because I was worried I didn’t get the personalities correct so let me know what you think. I know it’s a winter/Christmas type story and it’s currently summer but maybe this’ll help distract you from the heat? And hey, Christmas in July is a thing. Okay, I’m done, enjoy the story.
“I hate snow,” Aravis mumbled to herself while wrapped in a mound of blankets on the couch.
She, Cor, and Corin had taken a trip to the mountains because Corin claimed he ‘needed a break from the sweltering heat and need company for his excursion’. After successfully convincing Cor and Aravis to go with him, he booked them a suite in a five-star lodge. Personally, Aravis didn’t care how many stars this stupid place had; it did nothing to keep her from being cold.
The worst part was this weather made her incredibly grumpy. Cor had argued that she was always grumpy, which had almost started a food fight in the dining room last night.
A sudden gust of wind came in, making Aravis borrow even deeper into her cacoon, as the twins rushed in with red cheeks and covered in snow.
“Aravis!” Corin exclaimed as he ran towards the fire. “Why are you staying cooped up in here when you could be outside skiing or snowboarding?”
“Corin, if I’m cold sitting here, wrapped in blankets, heat on, and near a roaring fire, there is no way in hell I’m not going to die of pneumonia if I go outside,” Aravis snapped glaring at him.
Corin shrugged as he finished shredding his layers. He started for the bedroom he and Cor were sharing before stopping short and turning.
“By the way,” he said with a glint in his eye. “I managed to snag an invitation to that party that’s being held tonight so try not to miss me too much when I’m gone.”
With a wink, he disappeared into the bedroom.
Aravis moved her glare from the closed bedroom door to Cor’s figure as he sat by the fire.
“What does he mean by snagged an invitation?”
Cor chuckled.
“We ran into a few girls on the slopes and Corin captured their attention. One of them turned out to be the daughter of the man who owns the lodge. Corin did a little charming and next thing you know we’re invited to a party.”
“We?”
“Well I was standing there and it would have been rude to invite only one of us.”
“Are you going?” Aravis inquired, suddenly wishing she had gone skiing so she could have given these girls a piece of her mind.
Cor turned from the fire to look at her with a raised eyebrow, making Aravis want to look away. Too late she realized that the haughtiness of her tone had not completely hidden the sadness underneath.
Cor opened his mouth to speak but just then a crash sounded when the door Corin had disappeared into slammed against the wall as he strutted out in dry clothes.
“See you two later!” he called and, with another wink, was out the door again.
Cor let out a sigh as the door slammed shut and stood up, mumbling something about changing into dry clothes too.
Aravis hardly heard him, but watched him out of the corner of her eye as he walked away. Why was she feeling like this today? What was she even feeling? Aravis knew the answer as soon as she asked herself the question. Jealousy. She was feeling jealous. But there was nothing she could do about that. She and Cor were friends. Friends and nothing more.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard Cor yell from the bedroom.
“Aravis, you stole our blankets!”
“Well you weren’t using them!” She yelled back indignantly, clutching the blankets in her arms.
“Why aren’t you using your blanket?” Cor questioned her as he marched out of the bedroom to stand in front of her, now wearing a fresh set of clothes.
“I am using mine. These northern idiots seem to think one blanket is enough for a person!”
“Well I’m cold!”
“Well I am too!”
“How? You might as well be hiding under Mount. Everest! I can hardly see your face!”
“I just am! I’m not a polar bear! I’m not cut out for this kind of weather!”
“Well how am I supposed to get warm?”
“I don’t know! Go sit in the fire, that’ll do the trick! If you’re thinking about taking one of my blankets you’d better think again, mister! The only way you’re using one of these is if you join me under here!”
They both froze at this.
Aravis sunk into the covers until her head disappeared, leaving Cor standing there with his lips slightly parted in shock.
After a long silence she heard him whisper, “May I?”
Aravis mind seemed to freeze and speed into oblivion at the same time.
“If you want to, Shasta.”
Cor smiled then; a very large, very giddy smile.
Slowly he grabbed the corner of the mound and lifted it up, making Aravis shiver as a blast of cold air hit her. He lowered himself on the sofa, turning onto his side as if to face Aravis just as she shifted to face away from him.
“I’m about to fall off,” Cor complained. He wasn’t really. He just wanted to see what Aravis would do; how far they were going to take this.
There was a pause, shorter than the last few, before he heard her mumble, “Well then scooch in, idiot.”
He smiled again as he moved closer, moving his arm to rest atop to curve of her figure to allow for more room.
They stayed like this for a while, both slightly tense but strangely content, until Aravis decided she couldn’t take it anymore.
Cor heard her mumble something he couldn’t understand before she began to wiggle her way around to face him. He was about to ask her what she was doing when she placed her lips on his own.
His mind exploded. He found he couldn’t think straight; He couldn’t think of anything but the warm press of her lips against his.
Too soon, he felt her pull away. She began to flip away from him again but he swiftly wrapped his arms around her frame and held her close. Her dark eyes glared at him but there was a glint in them that hadn’t been there before. There was a pause as they starred at each other. Finally, a small smile appeared on Cor’s face.
“If I had known the way to kiss you was to freeze you to death I would have done it sooner.”
“Shut up!” Aravis exclaimed, hitting his chest.
Cor laughed. “What took you so long?”
“Me? You’re the man. According to society, you’re the one who should initiate this sort of thing.”
Cor’s smile faultered. “I didn’t know you wanted me to.”
Aravis laughed loudly. “And here I thought I was being too obvious! Haven’t you noticed how territorial I’ve become of you? I want punch every girl the goes near you and when you’re even remotely civil to them it makes me mad! Every time you’d smile at them or laugh at their jokes I’d be mad that it wasn’t directed at me; then I’d be mad at myself for being mad and-.”
She was interrupted when Cor pressed his lips to hers again. Their mouths moved in unison until they both pulled away for air. Aravis looked down at the blankets before mumbling, “Besides, I didn’t think you’d want me to do anything.”
“Not want you to do something? Aravis, I’ve wanted to kiss you for a while now. If you even look at a guy I get mad and then Corin won’t shut up about me making a move but I was always too scared to. You’re this-this goddess and you’re so strong and bold-beautiful-you always know what you want, and I was certain you didn’t want me.”
He stopped talking when he saw the smile that light up her face and the way she was shaking her head.
“Idiot.”
Aravis leaned in and gave his lips a quick peck. A small smile continued to grace her lips as she snuggled closer to him and laid her head on his chest.
She closed her eyes and mumbled, “Next time some girls invite you to a party, say you can’t go unless your girlfriend can come too.”
“Oh, so you’re my girlfriend now?”
Aravis’ eyebrow shot up as she opened her eyes. But when she saw the smile Cor was wearing she just shook her head and laughed.
Closing her eyes again, she snuggled a little closer to him, felt his arms tighten around her waist, and decided that maybe this place wasn’t so horrible after all.
That is, until Corin burst in a few hours later, waking them up with screams of triumph and never letting them hear the end of it.
Moodboard challenge
OTP series: Cor/Aravis, The Chronicles of Narnia
[1/5]
Cor and Aravis started together and will probably end with each other. They were introduced to the music world with their band, The Calormen (Breakout album Runaway, top left image) and became popular public figures for a while. After the band broke up, however, everyone thought they were though with music. Wrong. Aravis hit the ground running, producing her album Stories (top right image) just under a year of the band's breakup. It was a smashing success, bring both her and Narnia, inc. a lot of fame and success. Cor wasn't very far behind either, his album, New Royalty (bottom left image) rising to the top charts as well. But somehow, fate brought them together again. After collaborating for a Narnia, inc. promotional album, they rekindled their earlier friendship. Just last week, they debuted their first album as a duo, Archenland (bottom right image). The official numbers are yet to come out, but the buzz is clear: as much as we all liked them apart, we like them much, much more together. (By Lilly Miller. See the rest of the news on Archenland, Aravis and Cor, and Narnia, inc. on page 12.)
Modern AU Coravis~
In which Shasta (or maybe Cor?) isn’t entirely sure if he’s loosing his mind, because someone just told him he’s the heir to-well, something or the other, and Aravis is not going to have this arranged marriage, damn it, disowned or not disowned.
A warrior.
She was so strong.
Cor sees it every day, in every word, in every glance.
There was a fire in her heart that burned.
So bright, so strong. Strong enough to drive away any darkness.
She's surrounded by light, because the darkness is too afraid to come close.
She held her head like royalty, she was a better royal than he. Crown Price of Archenland, and he still feels as though he should bow to her.
And she seemed, to really, to truly care and he could hardly handle it because how could this lovely, fierce strong warrior of a woman look at him and see a friend, and equal?
And why did he want her to see so much more?
An angel.
He was so, so light.
She saw it in him.
She saw a light under his skin, so strong it seemed like she was glowing with it.
And he's beautiful, and careful, and kind, and everyone loved him because how could you not?
She was a Tarkheena. And he was a Prince, the Crown Prince, soon to be King.
And the boy she had thought to be so beneath her seemed to soar above her now.
Why did she beg, pray that somehow, some way, he did truly feel the same way?
Especially when it was not possible?
Years, years later, they would find themselves, him tracing the scars on her back that she wore proudly, together because she was strength and he was light and they were so, so much better together than apart–
But for now, they hoped, prayed, wanted, in silence.
This is for the amazing @aslansblessings who made a headcannon AGES ago, and I had promised her a fic... oops. This is really short and super late but I hope you like it!
“How is this entertaining in any way?” Corin shouted at his twin. “Aravis has got another horrid suitor, we should at least protect her.
Cor laughed. “She can protect herself.”
“How are you so calm. You should be worse than me, you’re in l-” Corin was cut off.
“Not another word.” Cor glared at his brother. “We are friends, that is all.”
“Right.” Corin smirked. “Hurry up and admit it, so you can get married, and get these horrid suitors out of this castle.”
Cor threw a pillow at his brother.
The sound of Prince Corin Thunderfist spitting out a mouthful of pillow was very satifying as Cor marched out the door.
…
“Our guests from Narnia are arriving today. I wish to make myself presentable.’ Aravis said, her expression cold.
Cor, standing some feet away and leaning on the wall, smirked at the look on the suitor’s face.
“Of course,” he said, in an attempt to recover. “I shall escort you to your chanbers.” he said, offering his arm, a slight smirk on his face. Apparently escort meant something differnt where he was from.
“Do you consider yourself a gentleman, sir?” Aravis asked.
He looked taked aback once more. “My lady-”
“Do you consider yourself a gentleman?” she reiterated.
“Well-” he began.
She cut in. “Because a true gentleman knows that I would only let a suitor that I am interested in marrying escort me anywhere. I do not wish to court you. If you would be so kind as to leave me alone I would greatly apprectiate it.”
Looking humiliated, the man mumbled, “Of course.” and slipped away.
Once he was out of earshot, Cor’ssilent snickers turned into a full blown laugh.
Rolling her eyes at him, Aravis snapped, “Oh do be quite Cor.” and storme up to her chambers.
But, (and this might have been wishful thinking on his part) her voice was fond.
coravis obviously
