CONFESSIONAL 001
You’re late.
The two words Carter was greeted with as he finally made his way into the confessional booth, usually he’d snap back with a smart ass remark but honestly right now he just didn’t have the energy. He’d barely slept a wink since things had gone down between him and Margaret, too riddled with guilt to do anything but wallow in self-hatred. “Yep - so what is it exactly you need from me?” His tone short without even meaning to be, his mind just needed for him to be anywhere but here at this very point in time.
A confessional, talk about your week, how you’re feeling.
Carter scoffed at himself, bringing his index finger to the bridge of his nose and rubbing it before shoving both of his hands into the pockets of his jeans and clicking his tongue. “Well let’s see,” He began, tilting his head to one side before continuing. “The only person I’ve ever truly cared about outside of my family admitted her feelings for me - feelings that are 100% reciprocated, feelings that I’ve had to keep underwraps for God only knows how long...” He sighed heavily, his eyes falling closed for a moment as he bit down hard at his bottom lip. The room was radio silence, you would’ve been able to hear a pin drop. Probably because most of the people in the room had seen the footage of Carter going off on a paparazzi so they didn’t want to risk getting on his bad side.
Whenever you’re ready.
The words were soft, cautious. Carter nodded softly, his eyes falling open just as they began to sting. He’d never been one for crying and he sure as hell didn’t want to change that now, not on television but it didn’t seem as if things would be working in his favor for long. “And I froze, I thought about all the ways I could screw it up.. About what I would do if I lost her.. About how I couldn’t survive without her in my life.. About how everyone says she deserves so much better..” His voice broke a little, followed by the smallest of nods. “They’re right.” The words were barely audible, more to himself than anyone else as he lifted one of his hands to wipe at the small wet streak on his cheek. A defeated sigh falling from his lips before he finally rose to his feet and silently made his way out of the room.
