I Shopped and Didn’t Adopt
So let me start by saying I do not get offended by much, especially when it comes to controversial protests and opinions.I believe everyone's entitled to their own opinion and what YOU choose to do with YOUR life is YOUR business and no one else’s. However, there is one movement thats has struck a nerve with me. The ‘Adopt don’t Shop’ movement is a silent protest mainly broadcasted by celebrities via social media.
All my life my family has been firm believers in rescuing and help lost dogs find their homes. I can’t tell you a year out of the 23 i have lived that we didn't have a dog. We've cared for a dog when a friend couldn’t, kept 2 dogs that we found off the street, rescued 3 from the pound. I mean to make people feel less than because we didn’t adopt a pound dog is pretty harsh.
What is so wrong for wanting to raise a dog from a puppy? i wanted my first dog to know me from his first several weeks of life. I wanted to be able to train Boston from an early age. What is wrong with wanting your first pup to literally grow with you? i wanted me to be his only past, present, and future. I want to be the only life he's known.
Every dog deserves a loving home and a great life, so to be fair not only pound dogs matter. I could not imagine life without my Boss Man. What if someone who abuses dogs or neglects their animals had gotten him instead of me? the thought makes me sick! I believe Boston was meant for me and I for him. No human should shame another for wanting to choose what kind of dog they want to own.
And no, I am not typing this in rage because of any guilt for not saving a dog from the shelter. I am expressing my opinion because i felt I should stand up for myself and other full bred dog owners. I hate that there are so many dogs who were abused and abandoned. I hate that there are so many dogs in kill shelters. But, unfortunately I was not meant to adopt at this moment in my life. Maybe in the future that will be my next move but i chose Boston for a reason.
