If Coriane had lived, Elara would've constantly had to wrestle her for control over Maven because she would've been determined to treat him as warmly as she did her own son

Tibe was always one drink away from admitting he didn't know how to love his kids now that Coriane was gone

Maven used to openly badmouth Coriane, just repeating shit his mother said about her, until Tibe blew up at him and he learned to keep it to himself

Cal would try to get Tibe and Maven to play with him at the same time, and Tibe would just kinda sideways glance at Maven like "oh. you're here." and tell them both he had official duties, and so did they

Cal would sometimes be jealous of Maven for actually having a mother, and it was one of the reasons he never let himself fully resent Elara before the betrayal or believed the rumors about her bc he believed they loved each other and he couldn't take that away from him

i wonder how julian managed to obtain a second copy of coriane's diary before elara destroyed it. like did cori write the exact same stuff in two journals? did she share her diary with julian? did she know julian was writing a copy of it? or did julian suspect that elara was messing with his sister and decide to secretly read her diary to be sure, then copy down the evidence in case elara destroyed it? did he sneak into her room every night to write down her newest entry, or did he copy it all in a short time? it's implied that elara destroyed the diary soon after coriane's death, so how did julian have a copy of what she wrote on her last night?

A family nickname, used among the royals and a precious few friends. “All right, then,” Coriane said, agreeing to his request.” “Saying ‘Your Highness’ was getting to be a bit of a pain.” They first met by chance, on the massive bridge that spanned the Capital River, connecting both sides of Archeon. A marvelous structure of twisted steel and trussed iron, supporting three levels of roadway, plazas, and commercial squares. Coriane was not so dazzled by silk shops or the stylish eateries jutting out over the water, but more interested in the bridge itself, its construction. She tried to fathom how many tons of metal were beneath her feet, her mind a flurry of equations. At first, she didn’t notice the Sentinels walking toward her, nor the prince they followed.

Conrad demorou certo tempo para selecionar os poucos poemas para a sonserina. Ele não soube muito bem o porquê de estar se dando ao trabalho de fazer tudo aquilo, apenas sabia que uma parte de si se sentia extremamente grata pelo que ocorrera na noite anterior. Eu preciso ao menos tentar fazê-la acreditar que o amor existe. E aqueles poemas eram a retribuição que o grifino decidira dar à Coriane por ela tê-lo ajudado a se libertar de amarras invisíveis. Sem nomes ou identificações. Fora o que ele decidira fazer. Em um envelope pardo, colocou a lista dos poemas, seus respectivos autores e uma impressão de cada um. Ela não teria outra alternativa a não ser ler. Com letras garrafais escreveu “Para Coriane” e deixou o envelope por cima de anotações e livros que a garota deixara na mesa da biblioteca ao sair para procurar alguma outra coisa por entre o labirinto das estantes e prateleiras.
