Last weekend, four of our Graduate M.Ed. students helped to lead a shoreline restoration project at Cornet Bay (near Deception Pass) with the Kulshan Creek Neighborhood Youth Program. This program serves youth ages 5-18 from the Mount Vernon communities of Kulshan Creek, Casa de San Jose and Harrison Apartments year-round in a series of outdoor activities including all-day field trips and after-school programs. Since 2007, more than 500 youth have learned about bears, bats, marine biology, migratory birds and the natural history of the Skagit Valley through monthly visits to local public lands with a variety of educators. Thanks to Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group for helping facilitate the salmon habitat restoration!
