Quick OC Gem blurb- Cornetites are entertainer gems, made to witness and commemorate the glory of important events. They perform with instruments, their voices, and through an illustrative smoke that they can generate. Link to wikipedia article on cornetite
This one is an expy of Zoot from the Muppet show
Diamond: Blue
Alignment: Crystal Gems
Gem type: Cornetite
Placement: Throat
Weapon: No true weapon, uses a modified ocarina to create smokescreens (not pictured)
Backstory blurb: One of the many Cornetites that were created to witness the formation of Pink Diamond, but unfortunately the ceremony went disastrously due to a previously undetected mineral irregularity, Pink Diamond sprung forth from the ground as a tiny glowing thing that screeched horribly. Not exactly the sort of thing you want on record as a glorious all-knowing creator. Only one Cornetite was spared due to popping out blind from the minerals and several minutes late. Blue Diamond ordered that the events that transpired were never to be told to anyone, thereby accidentally inducing muteness. She was still permitted to perform for Blue Diamond using an ocarina and was brought to Earth during one of the Blue’s visits. The Crystal Gems “attacked” the entertainment pavilion and Cornetite was lost in the scuffle. A Carnelian took pity on her and brought her back to Rose Quartz. Cornetite befriended some of the members and decided to join the CGs and put her skills to use creating smoke screens during rebel attacks. Was hiding out at a small cove with a small group of others when the Diamonds attacked the Earth.
Personality: Shy, spaced out, often rather oblivious to danger
Pre corruption:
Corrupted:
Capable of releasing noxious, multicolored smoke from the holes that pock the surface of her skin. Still blind in corrupted form.

Cornetite
The number of colourful minerals encountered in the zones of copper ore deposits that have been altered by fluids of varied chemistry passing through during the course of geological time is considerable, and many of them form the core of collections. Here the primary sulphide minerals have been converted into oxidised minerals (see http://bit.ly/1I4XWKt for an explanation of this term) dependent on the chemistry of the fluids, with the well known carbonates malachite and azurite being the best known example. Cornetite is a rarity, a copper phosphate found in many places, but the best specimens (including the one in the photo) come from the Star of the Congo Mine in the Democratic republic of Congo. It was named after a Belgian geologist named Jules Cornet.
Colour varies from blue to green, with all the mixtures between, usually in deep saturated hues (saturation indicates the depth of a colour, pink is a lightly saturated red for example, as opposed to tone which delineates how light or dark a colour is). It is too soft for jewellery or carving use, with a Mohs hardness of 4.5. The specimen featuring radial sprays of crystals in the photo is from the type locality mentioned above in D.R. Congo, and measures 3.8 x 2.5 x 2.4 cm.
