Day 24 – Cornfused

So this yokai from Yokai Watch is called Cornfused in English, or ピントコーン Pintokо̄n in Japanese. Websites on the internet generally say its Japanese name is a pun on the phrase ピンと来ん pin to kon, which is correct, but they incorrectly translate the phrase as ‘Okay, I guess’, when it’s closer to ‘I don’t get it’.

ピンと来る pin to kuru is that moment when everything ‘clicks’ and you start to understand something a lot better. ピンと来ん is a negative form thereof. Also its whole gimmick is making it so people don’t understand explanations, so like, I have no idea how this idea got started.
