THE REASON KUROTSUKI LACK OF HEIGHT DIFFERENCE IS IMPORTANT

You see it in any fandom you go into: the heralded Height Difference ships. Whether it’s a couple inches or over a foot of difference, all the ships are shuffled into the same category of tippy-toe kisses and the taller person swooning over how cute and tiny the shorter person is. Having to duck down to plant a smooch on their lover’s cheek, not being able to reach taller shelves and having their significant other do it for them, grumbling about short jokes while their partner just laughs and assures them that they’re perfect the way they are. They certainly have an appeal. However, Same Height ships are just as (if not more) important, and here is why:

Kuroo Tetsurou is a mere 6mm shorter than Tsukishima Kei, a height difference that is more than made up by his wild bedhead. They are the same height. Here are some of the most important reasons you should celebrate that:

They are at the perfect height for forehead touches. Forehead touches. For standing close and leaning their foreheads together, keeping their lips mere inches apart as they whisper intimate conversations or stare lovingly into each other’s eyes.

Perfect height for face kisses. It’s the easy thing in the world to press kisses to each other’s nose and cheeks, and only minimal effort to press a kiss to each other’s forehead.

Perfect height for lip kisses (you guessed it, anon). They are at the perfect level to just lean in and kiss the other person. Their lips are just Right There. There’s no drawn-out leaning down or reaching up. There’s (almost) no risk of missing. This is especially helpful in spur-of-the moment kisses, where one of them is pulling the other in quickly. They are just at perfect kissing level at all times.

Hugs are always perfect. There’s no being smushed against someone’s chest and suffocating. There’s no risk of jabbing one’s shoulder into a shorter person’s throat as you lean down to hug them. It is always a gorgeous, head-leaning-on-your-shoulder hug. This also makes it easy for one of them to turn their head to press a kiss to the other’s cheek mid-hug.

Wrapping an arm around the other person’s shoulder, whether out walking in public or sitting beside each other in a movie theater, always goes to plan. There’s no awkward reaching when the other person is slightly too tall. There’s no awkward hanging one’s arm when the other person is too short. It’s perfect, every time.

The handholding. The handholding. Have you ever realizing what a luxury it is to be able to keep your arm straight while holding hands with someone? I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed as I was the first time I held hands with someone taller than me and had to bend my arm. It made the whole experience slightly uncomfortable. It was something to get used to before I could enjoy it. With a Same Height ship, you don’t have this problem. Straight arms. Straight arms. You reach out for your lover’s hand, and it is just there, right beside yours. Even pre-handholding, your fingers graze when you walk closely side-by-side. It’s perfect.

I could go on, but I’ll leave this list here.

Because they are pretty much the same height, you get to enjoy all of these with kurotsuki and more. You get bickering over who’s taller. You get Kuroo appreciating how long and gorgeous Tsukki’s legs are, because even if they’re the same height, Tsukki’s legs are longer than Kuroo’s. They can share clothes all the time without it being a one-way street of oversized boyfriend sweaters.

Same Height ships are efficient. They run smooth. They allow for maximum amounts of physical intimacy. And if you like things awkward and clumsy, then that makes things even better, because things should run smoothly under these circumstances, so if they manage to mess that up by missing when they kiss or elbowing the other person in the face when they go to wrap their arm around their shoulders, that’s just even more awkward and clumsy. The odds were in their favor and they still failed. That’s adorable.

tl;dr KuroTsukki’s lack of height difference is important because it makes it real easy for Kuroo to kiss Tsukki on the cheek or for Tsukki to reach out for Kuroo’s hand with minimal fuss, and Same Height ships are underappreciated.
