Another one for my ever growing corpse!L collection, as suggested by @bleachedpapers, sweets! Except neither of them are eating because Light thinks it'll ruin his perfect teeth and L.... Uh, hazard a guess....
Thanks for the suggestion this was so fun to make ^^ as always if anyone has any activities for them to do please tell me so that I can draw them!
(alt version under cut)
as a huge L fan who also loves lolita fashion, i love your corpse L au!!!!!! Tell us all about it!!!!<3<3
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING!!!! 🩷
The au doesn't have a storyline or anything yet but it does hinge on the theoretical of Light getting to keep L's corpse in some capacity after he dies in the cannon, and even though artistically all of the content I make for it centers around L, it's more about Light and his feelings/delusions because L is uh dead so he can't exactly participate
Thematically, it's about being unable to let go, with Light holding onto L and pretending to do 'regular' things with him to convince himself that he's still here. Buuut the activities they do aren't things that either of them would realistically do in general, it's tea parties, dress up and overall things that Light thinks a kid should do. He isn't doing kid stuff intentionally though, it's more of a subconscious reflex to lean towards cute childish things as a way to sort of taunt L. L did always say they're both childish and Light always hated to be perceived as a child so the pink and the dresses and the playing pretend is Light's way of mocking L, of putting him into a parody of a childhood neither of them had.
This ties into Lolita fashion too because even though it's mainly cute innocent and childish in it's aesthetics, it's a rebellion against what is meant to be seen as cute and childlike. (Also it just so happens that Lolita fashion originated in Japan and was at it's most popular around the time death note takes place!)
Also Misa and her fashion sense. Light probably takes inspiration from some of the things she wears (especially her dress in the last episode, it's so gorgeous). She's devoted to him completely and so he could come to associate the feminine way she dresses with that expression of devotion and project it onto L. All he really wants is for everyone to see his vision, to agree with him and to see him as some perfect arbiter of truth and so of course, given the opportunity he would dress L, the one man who he's seen as an equal, the one man who refused to believe in his vision of a new world, in a way he thinks symbolises that agreement (and dare I say it love).
He's trying to round out L's metaphorical sharp edges by dressing him in bows and ribbons, and, by taking care of him in such a way he can pretend they've known eachother forever. Maybe he's trying to imitate a childhood he thinks L had. Maybe he thinks that will bring them closer together.
Lolita was often used as an insult for immature girls and in a way that's exactly what Light is.
Also the fashion stems from Victorian and Rocco dresses which, when you think about the people wearing such dresses, would suggest an air of superiority and privilege. Both L and Light would fit this perfectly.
Speaking of Victorian fashion, the au/some of L's outfits are inspired by porcelain dolls from that era! I have one and I take really good care of her and Light does the same with L. He's never seen L as fragile when he was alive, L was an active threat, someone to best, but now that he's dead it feels like if Light doesn't look after him every second of the day he will lose whatever is left of him completely.
And so he treats him as a dear thing, something precious and on the verge of breaking, all because he can't bring himself to accept that L is wayyyy gone. Of course he taunts him with it too, of course he combs his hair and forces his feet into eccentric looking shoes, of course he makes him sit properly at the table and of course he buys his favourite cake.
Also on a sillier note, Misa is really freaked out by this (understandably) and doesn't understand why she has to share Light with a corpse
And, Light knows that L is dead but only when it's convenient if that makes sense? He talks to him and stuff and sometimes pretends that L talks back and sometimes even gets mad at him for not responding. Also he still threatens to kill him from time to time and he will never ever admit that he misses him. Ever.
Instead he roleplays normal person childhood with L's corpse, you know, like a normal person.
Light did have a normal childhood but it's pretty hard to remember what you did when you were 5 at the age of 20ish, plus there wasn't easy access to cameras and stuff so that made it easier to forget and get things turned around and eventually end up with an overacted parody of something innocent that now is very deeply disturbing for onlookers.
I'm gonna end this here because I feel like I'm gonna start looping back on myself if I keep ranting...
Again thank you so much of asking you don't have to read all of that but thank you so much if you did 🩷🩷🩷 feel free to ask any questions or give me ideas or anything!!!
Outfit practice doodles from yesterday! I have a little comic that I'm making for this au and I'll hopefully get it finished by the end of the month ^^ (no one say anything about me re-using the exact same pose, I know, I was being lazy)
