The sound of a blaring horn mixed with laughter as Hollis hopped outta his uber and into the night air. He hadn’t made it to his stop yet but fuck-- traffic was tight and it was a beautiful night, so he leaned in the passenger window to thank his driver and made a dash for the sidewalk. A chorus of horns and curses were left in his wake but he hit the concrete with all limbs and his suit still fuckin pristine. He checked it, amongst other things in the closest reflective surface. Was he tryin too hard? Definitely, but had you asked him three years ago if he would’ve made it not only to New York City, but be wandering the streets of downtown Manhattan? Without stickin out like a donkey in a pony show? He would’ve laughed in your face. Here he was though, his third day in and feeling good about his decision to skip the place Cora had recommended. She had good taste but he wanted to do his own exploring. That and there was music in the air, a piano, and he couldn’t resist giving it a follow.
A couple of questions and a lot of charm later, Hollis found himself on a roof top, leaning on an outdoor bar. He didn’t know if this was a public bar or a private party of some sort. All he knew was it looked fuckin’ expensive and the piano seemed to be the piece de resistance. He was enamored by it, or rather the music that carried through the city and the blonde that seemed to so effortlessly command it. He didn’t move until she finished and even then, he lingered a moment, keeping busy with a bit of whiskey before he finally made his way over. ”I’m sure you get this a lot, but you play beautifully,” he paused, offering her a smile, knowing that despite not stickin out too much, his drawl would quickly give him away, “I don’t wanna take up too much of your time, but I’m curious, are ya classically trained or more of a self taught type?”
