His feet carried him as his mind wandered, dejection written on his face as plain as day. Another town he’s scoured through and yet no results. He was certain that he’d found every hidden away book and bookstore that he could, but nothing shed any more light on what he needed to know. ...He’d been in this town for a while now too, it was probably time to move on somewhere else before a disaster or something hit these poor people because of him. He was so buried into his own thoughts that a sudden flash of red hair caused the kernel of cold inside him to jump and a startled hand flew to press against his chest. What was that? Had that--had that thing ever reacted like that before? What had caused it? William whirled around, eyes searching for the flash of red he saw earlier. Before he knew what he was doing, he had started after her, voice calling out, “U-um, excuse me!” Just then, he’d reached the woman, his hand instinctively reaching out to grab her wrist. “Sorry to bother you, but I--” Will rushed to get his words out, but was given no time to finish his sentence when another hand clamped down on top of his. Looking over, his eyes glanced up to meet a stern and vibrant gaze. The look in the man’s eyes chilled him but the other’s face somehow remained expressionless all the while.
“I suggest you release her right now, boy.” The hand gripping the strange male’s wrist gave a painful squeeze and he watched with satisfaction as the other hastily pulled his hand away from Lyrica. Now he was in a bad mood. His fingers itched to curl around the woman’s waist, brush against her arm, anything to show that she belonged to him but he held back. No doubt Lyrica would understand immediately and love it if he did something like that, which was why he wouldn’t. But as it was, he couldn’t keep the chill from his gaze as his eyes shifted to the woman next to him, waiting to see what she would decide to do with that boy. It was her that the other boy had grabbed after all.
