During a stormy night, a prisoner escapes, a smuggling goes wrong and mysterious killer murders a homeless. On top of all of this, a new monster (the corrosive man) will add an extra dose of danger to the night.

Night people was part of the first batch of Batman stories I ever read. And I have read the story many times in my life. I don’t think I ever paid attention to all the characters involved in it (mostly the corrosive man and Kadaver).

Last decade, I watched “The Warriors” for the first time and it reminded me right away of “Night People”: It all happens in one night and we have a DJ adding to the narration. I asked Alan Grant if this story was an homage to “The Warriors” and he told me that it wasn’t but that it may have been an unconscious homage.

Well, apart from those details, the story is not like “The warriors”. It actually feels like a very dark comedy that goes full circle in the end, tying all the parts together.

Norm Breyfogle does his usual amazing art in this trilogy with very iconic panels that I had stapled to my mind forever.

This story also introduces part of a supporting cast for Alan Grant’s run, mostly the homeless people from cardboard city.

But we also get Kadaver who will make another appearance later on. As for the corrosive man, he apparently dies in this story, but he is later brought back during Knightquest.
