Little angsty concept with Nightmare's shape-shifting ability because I listened to Copycat again so my mind is racing
So what if Nightmare, being traumatized by the fact no one loved him, started using his shape-shifting ability to slightly alter his body to fit people's taste ?
Depending on the person he is with he will change how he looks like, he will change his appearance each time someone mentions liking a certain trait
Or even angstier taking the form of his old self as to please Dream but only pushing him away because Dream thinks he's doing that to torment him when really he's trying hard to be liked by him again by looking like the one he used to love
He wants to be liked, even if just for his body, he craves validation and so modifies his own body over and over again until he doesn't remember anymore what his real appearance is because he takes too many forms
He's confused when someone tells him he doesn't have to do that because obviously he does ? How are people gonna like him if he doesn't meet their expectations ?
He'll eventually have an identity crisis once he realizes how far he's gone
Some new dreamtale facts i learned this week that makes me want to explode :D
credit to the beloved @aguinhac for telling me this (your the coolest)
The corruption SOMETIMES believes it's the original nightmare, its host whose identity, personality, and some of his memories it stole.
That explains why it crashed out in front of ccino when it saw him getting bullied. The corruption began relieving passive’s memories of abuse and in a fit of rage killed all the assailants. When thanked by Ccino, the corruption tells him it didn’t kill the bullies for ccino’s sake, it did it for itself because it believed itself to be the original nightmare in that particular moment. It knows that it isn't the original nightmare and that the real nightmare died the day of the apple incident, but due to it basically building everything off of the original nightmare (it’s personality, intelligence, and memories surrounding dream) it sometimes genuinely believes itself to be that nightmare.
Also, the corruption doesn’t hate dream
…
I’m not joking.
quoting Joku:
Nightmare canon no odia a Dream, lo quiere matar por la manzana, no por odio, lo del odio se lo saco en fandom de la manga. Solo finge odiarlo por lo que paso (frente a Dream) para crearle traumas a Dream.
*translation:
Nightmare canon does not hate Dream, he wants to kill him for the apple, not out of hatred, the hate thing was taken out of his sleeve in fandom. He only pretends to hate him for what happened (in front of Dream) to create trauma for Dream.
*end of translation
So yeah, apparently that's a fanon concept made popular by fans, and in reality the corruption doesn’t hate dream but pretends to do so in order to hurt dream emotionally as dream for a period of time believed his brother to still be alive and just corrupted. Dream (due to the golden apple he had no choice but to absorb as his soul) is incapable of feeling hatred- whether it be from others or being able to feel it himself ( i don’t like that for reasons but anyways). That's why he doesn’t know the corruption is faking it.
This doesn’t mean that the corruption likes dream- It just wants the apple and hating dream isn’t nessacary to get it. Its No.1 goal is making sure everyone dies to negativity via destruction of the last golden apple and hating dream doesn’t really add to that. Also, considering that passives influence despite being dead is super strong, I wouldn’t be surprised why the corruption doesn’t hate dream but is more neutral than anything towards him (but those are just my thoughts).
Passive must’ve been a literal sweetheart because that's HIS personality the corruption is echoing- specifically the parts that are merciful or kind. Even if all the benevolent gestures that the corruption has done were by accident, passive is the reason for it. Like dude, without passive being the base for the corruption’s personality, Ccino and the corruption’s “relationship” (as toxic as it is in canon) would not have happened as nicely(?) as it did.
Imagine the corruption taking after someone like NegativeTale Asgore (who canonically has ZERO redeeming qualities) or something new chara. Depending on the person, the corruption could be less lawful evil like it is in canon and 100% chaotic evil. There goes the calculating and smart corruption we know, what we now have is BURN EVERYTHING TO THE GROUND SCREW PLANNING KILL EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT LESSENS NEGATIVITY DIE DIE DIE!!!!!! corruption.
Heck, I’m starting to headcanon that's why all the shadow papyri the corruption creates are so friendly/silly. The corruption is supposed to be the embodiment of all negativity within the multiverse, but has sidekicks that are just goofy. Maybe passive has a stronger effect on magic thats not directly tied to the corruptions main body.
The shadow puppets are capable of having their own personalities and thoughts, but are described to be dumb and weak unlike the person who created them (y’know, the corruption who’s EVIL, unlike the shadow papyri). It’s been stated that in canon, there is the possibility of passive being brought back if dream were to touch the corruptions black apple soul, so nightmare is in there somewhere. After all, in dreamtale “death”, doesn't always mean someone's permanently gone *cough nim cough cough*.
I don’t know, maybe that’s just the real nightmare doing good, proving everyone who told him he was evil wrong, even after death.
Oh & btw there's a fourth dreamtale ending where nightmare gets brought back to life lol (it's kind of not well thought out imo though)

FGOD AU: An Alternate Story
In the beginning, there was a collective of voices. The collective needed a muse, for they could not create full universes. The only things they could make were unwhole sketches, and from one of those sketches, came their much needed muse, who was named Ink.
At first, Ink obeyed their needs. Created what they wanted him to. But when Ink wants to create on his own, the collective, "The Creators", needed another being, as their viewing of Ink's creations were deemed useless for their multiverse.
That other being is a glitch that fell into the anti-void, Error.
But, even though this issue is easy to fix, stubbornness leads to otherwise.
A story about Ink, Error, and later on Blue. About how one action, rather a lack of, can lead to an ugly domino effect that affects everyone and everything you know. Even yourself.
