with a grunt, he approaches dazai, showing his usual annoyed expression towards him as he hands him a little box, neatly arranged with some velvet colored wrapping paper and a black ribbon. in it was an omamori, a lucky charm with the saying "health". he really couldn't find something else to gift him. "happy birthday, you idiot. just take it already", he mutters as he looks away, releasing a huff.
“This is the worst persent anyone has ever given me ever. What have I ever done to you, Chuuya? Except for the time I put a bomb under your car, the time I moved everything in your apartment one centimeter to the left, the time I lit your favorite hat on fire, the time I put fireants in your underwear drawer, the time I stole your favorite bottle of wine a much, much cheaper variety of wine I bought for eight dollars at a grocery store and resealed the bottle so you would never know I’ve never done anything bad to you.”
The list was much longer than that but if Dazai listed all of the pranks he had pulled against Chuuya, they would be standing there all day. He saw Chuuya trying to snatch the lucky charm away. Dazai, quickly used his height advantage to push Chuuya away and hold the charm close to his chest.
They were both children. They were infants. He first met Chuuya when he was sixteen, and ever since then it was like he had not aged a single day. Whenever he was around Chuuya, he reverted back to the child Chuuya knew he was. Dazai did not change, could not change, would never change, but at least if he was frozen forever in this eternal moment then Chuuya was here with him. He wasn’t the only one unable to grow up.
“No, it’s mine. My things are mine, even when I don’t want them. You’ll always be mine, even though I’ve never wanted you.”
