did i miss something or did cirque pull the kill switch on corteo like overnight?? 😭
Unfortunately yes, they did. They were set to hold the show's final tour in the Middle East starting this month, but stops and dates were unusually slow to come together from the start, there was barely any marketing, ticket sales started very late, and that was all before war broke out in earnest. Now that it has, they canceled outright and are calling last year's Aukland stop the last ever performance of Corteo.
It's very upsetting. Cirque has entered a whole new era of careless development and private equity-driven greed that makes this end all the more bitter. Corteo was a gem, humanity deliberately knitted into every single detail, and it and everyone involved deserved a proper final bow. We can't even count on them to create something vibrant or emotional enough to replace it anymore, because time and time again they have shown us they cannot and will not.
Ironic that the funeral show just disappeared overnight. Put on Ritornare and toast to Mauro because that's a sight better than Cirque bothered to do.
