“ you are correct in BOTH instances, ” eyebrows raised, hands wrap around the hilt of his cane and he tilts his head, “ but you know as well as i do, my dear, that you cannot reside in this hotel for as long as we have without a dash of MADNESS seeping in. ”

She lit up a cigarette not making any eye contact with him as she rolls her eyes. “I admit I have my madness but mostly it came from you James. Everything I’ve been put through in this... Hellhole.” She says with a sigh as she took a drag, and holding it within her slender fingers.

To say that Elizabeth had once hated James was an understatement, there was nothing that could have described the deep and uncontrollable anger and hatred that welled deep in her chest upon seeing him. But she found herself pacing through her room, dressed to the nines for their diner ritual with him but instead of the usual dread there was a light sense of interest. Those feelings made her stomach tighten, maybe it was the fact that Tate had been staying around and seeing James with him made her feel different. 

She finally straightened herself up and walked to the same room where they had met many times before. She knew that Tate was busy, up to no good with Sally or something similar so it would be just the two of them again. Her dainty manicured hand came up to knock once upon the door.

“James.” She was a bit impatient, knowing he always took his time to answer the door.

“ I don’t like it .”  Tate’s face scrunched up at a single sip of the champagne he’d spent practically thirty minutes begging James to share with him ; It was New Years !! And he was dead , so he figured the whole children - shouldn’t - drink thing didn’t apply to him anymore . But it made his mouth feel weird and his throat sting , and he decided quickly , maybe alcohol wasn’t for him .  “ Nevermind . You drink it .”

Like the heathen he is , Tate dunked his fingers down inside the warm mug of fresh hot chocolate to fish out a marshmallow ; It was still half - melted , the beverage soaked inside of what was left and he plopped that into his mouth .  “ Did you know , uh . The difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa is one is made with milk , and the other is made with hot water ??”  Fingers still in his mouth , he nodded .  “ I always just assumed they were the same thing until I tried to buy some from a coffee shop .”

“ Oh , please . I’m not going to choke .”  Kai checked himself out in a nearby mirror , turning from left to right as he adjusted his collar ; Winter use to always be the one to make sure he was dressed properly . But James seemed a reliable enough man to fill the position .  “ I was a politician once ,”  he reminded .  “ Lying is in my NATURE .”
