Chalres Interview post Race_ Japan 2025

Charles P4. Finished where you started. Was that pretty much the maximum. Where you quite pleased to keep George behind at the end?

Oh it was a very boring race for me. I mean the Maclaren were too fast in front and I was trying to manage the gap to George behind. He was a little bit faster at the end, I was a little bit faster in the middle part of the race, but ah- that’s the absolute best we could do and it’s a bit of a shame that there is not more in the car. Ah yeah, its uhm- happy in a way, because after a weekend like this, we have learned so much and on Friday I felt like I found a way to help me maximize the car more for the future, that’s good, but I am not happy that whenever we maximize our result, that means we are P4, that is the best result we can do. We got to work on that.

There was a lot of experimenting on Friday practice so where does that leave you for Bahrain next weekend and for the season. To get a read- handle on this car?

Ah yeah, I mean uh- for Bahrain we keep working in the direction that I have been working in, uh- on Friday. And uhh- see if that helps us but (shakes head) I think there is not much more performance in the car than what we are seeing now. We just need new parts and if we have them soon enough, I am sure that this is the only solution to our problems.

Charles Interview Post Qualifying

I: Hey Charles, I know you said earlier this is a track you struggle with. Do you feel this was the best you could have done today?

C: I felt, it felt like it at least. Lewis had done a better job than I did, but I felt like I maximized on my side, and I don’t think there was anything more. A bit in front of Lewis, a bit behind, that doesn’t really matter, because as a team we start next to each other, so as a team I think we maximized the potential of the car, but the most important thing is, that we understand where have gone the potential of the car, because this morning or from sprint quali yesterday, we were much faster compared to the others. I think yesterday Lando had been a step ahead, if he had finished his lap but with other people we were more or less in ?. And today even though it’s tight we seem to be a bit more on the backfoot, because I think both laps Lewis’ and mine weren’t that bad, I mean it was pretty good. So, it is the way it is.

I: Did you make a few changes before quali, taking to cure those issues?

C: I did, and I definitely felt better on my side. Was it perfect, no, but it went in the right direction.

Australian GP 2025

I: Charles, such a though day out there. Seemed like nothing went right after you ran reasonably strong in P5 in the early days.

C: Yeah, I mean for a big part of the race we thought P5 was secured and then obviously the rain arrived and then everything changed. The first one to blame is myself, after the mistake I have done exiting turn 11, we lost one or two positions there, which was then difficult to recover. We overtook one or two guys on track, but we were then a bit too late on the pitstop and we lost a few other positions. It’s been a tricky day overall, but we will look into it. It’s only the first race of the season. It’s not the first race we would have hoped for, but we need to remotivate ourselves for Shanghai and recover from what was a disappointing first weekend.

I: I know it was a bit of an unusual track here. But what is the general mood of the overall performance. Cause you made a little bit of a step back from where you thought you were gonna be.

C: We are. We definitely are. If you look at the pace of the Maclaren today, they were unbelievable. They were much stronger today than they were yesterday. But we will look into it. It’s only race 1 out of 24. And we need to stay calm and work in the right direction.

Charles is dissapointed with the race. Both his mistake and the late pitstop lost him points. He finished P8. Overall not a good weekend for ferrari.

Charles Interview post Quali_Japan 2025

Charles P4 how are you feeling about that. Is that pretty much the best you could get out of it you think?

This was definitely the best we could get out of it today. I mean it’s on one hand disappointing because P4 is never what you want to fight for, but on the other hand I am very- I mean I am quite of satisfied with the day of yesterday. It was a day where we have done big changes on my side to try and find a way to be a bit more comfortable in the car, because it is the beginning of the year it hasn’t been exactly where I wanted to be and it’s been really positive so far, so we have maximized the car potential, but we are lacking overall performance at the moment.

With that in mind would you welcome a little bit of rain tomorrow?

Ahm, I don’t know, I like to check what the direction I have took yesterday with the set up and being very aggressive. I like to check it on a dry race so yeah, I prefer a dry race.

Charles interview post FP_Japan 2025

What a destructive afternoon there with all the red flags. But how is that first day in the car in general.

I thought it was quite positive. I tried so many things today and for that it was a very constructive day. We didn’t put everything together, but it felt like the performance is probably better that what we are seeing on page 1. I am definitely looking forward to tomorrow, but I feel like everything we have learned today will be the completely opposite tomorrow with the huge change of wind. It will be a big change especially with a track like this.

How important will that final practice session be in order to get a read of the change of the wind?

Yeah but to be honest even with the wind it felt like- It was just frustration. I wasn’t putting one lap on the board. Every time there was either traffic or red flag or another red flag or another red flag. So that was just frustrating that way, but I think it was very constructive. We made lots of changes and yeah it was a good day. I feel like I learned a lot from this car today and I feel like I made me understood where I wanted more for the future races so that’s always a good thing.

So, hopeful that you will be at least in the mix.

Ahh we need to be careful because Mclaren seems to be on another planet but I feel like I maybe have a bit more of an idea how to maximize our potential which is always a good thing.

Charles Interview Post Chinese GP Race, (Pre-DSQ)

I: Hi Charles, well I felt for you, when you lost that bit of wing at the start, the pace actually looked all right after that. Are you still disappointed with the ultimate result?

C: I mean I am disappointed, because I feel like the potential today was here to maybe fight for the win actually. I really feel like we had a lot of performance in the car. Yesterday in the sprint race I felt like that as well actually. Towards the end of the sprint race when I started pushing I started to gain a lot, but uhm yeah I had done some changes with the car and I was quite optimistic for today. But we lost 30 points of downforce so that was a bit chunk of performance. But we did a really good job considering that. It’s just a shame for turn 1, I mean honestly Lewis couldn’t have done anything better. I don’t know what I could have done better. But I mean he was on the outside, I thought he was defending from the car on the outside and then he came back towards the inside. I didn’t expect that, but he had all the right to do so. And so we touched. Luckily for us, we both finished the race, but it wasn’t ideal with the damage for us.

I: It was another race where Mclaren looked strong. How much of a threat do you think they are going forward.

C: Oh they are, they are the biggest threat for sure. They are the fastest car on track. Both in qualifying and in the race. That’s where they are really strong. We are really strong in the race, but we are not strong in quali and we need to work on our short run pace.

Charles Interview Post Sprint Race

I: Hey Charles, were you surprised how difficult the pace was. You caught George nearly at the end, but it looked like you didn’t have a comfortable enough car to really go after him.

C: No, I wouldn’t really blame the car because Lewis is doing a great job with it. So for me, it’s me really, until now I haven’t been comfortable with the car as it is. I took a slightly different direction compared to Lewis in terms of setup, but I don’t think it’s all in there. I just really struggle on this track historically and it’s no exception this weekend but it’s not an excuse I need to react and qualifying will be a good start to turn things around.

Charles Interview Post Sprint Quali

Charles thoughts on the Post Sprint Quali Chinese Gp

I: Hi Charles summarize that Quali session for the sprint

C: I have struggled on my side of the garage. From the beginning I felt like I was a step back compared to Lewis and Lewis was just faster today. Struggled a lot in turn 1,2,3 which was more or less the same struggles I had last year so a bit of a shame but apart from that, everything was quite tight so obviously it’s a shame that we start P4 but Lewis is on pole and hopefully we can have a good race together tomorrow.

I: How did you find FP1 with the challenging conditions and the tire pressure.

C: Very difficult. We really struggled to put everything in the right window, but at the end of the day it felt a bit better in qualifying but not where I wanted it to be. So still some work to be done for qualifying tomorrow, however in the race it’s another story and this we can only see tomorrow.

I: And how will you reset now based on those. Trying to keep the tires in the window?

C: Again, first we have a sprint race which I think will be very tricky around here with the tires so we have to focus on that and then we will see about qualifying later on.
