“At this point, what else could possibly go wrong?” Jennifer asked as she and Liam turned down the bedcovers.
Pillow in hand, he stopped and stared at her with wide eyes, his mouth hanging open in shock. “Any number of things! There’s iron deficiency, what if you’re not getting enough nutrients? Dehydration, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure...”
“Ok. No more WebMD for you.” Standing up straight, a sharp pain jabbed her in the ribcage. She winced, pressing a hand firmly to the right side of her very large stomach.
“What is it? What’s the matter?” Liam asked breathlessly, quickly making his way around the bed. Cupping her cheek gently in one hand, he placed the other atop hers where it was pressed against her stomach, looking down at her with an expression engulfed in concern.
“I’m fine,” she assured him. “There’s just a foot lodged in my ribs.” She pushed a little harder and let out a sigh of relief as the baby shifted again. “See? All better. I’m gonna go to the bathroom. You get in bed, I’ll be out in a minute.” Giving him a reassuring smile, she stood on her tip toes to give him a soft kiss before crossing the room.
“Are you sure that’s all it was?” he asked, following at her heels. “It was your right side. What if it’s your gallbladder? They were concerned about your gallbladder.”
Reaching the bathroom, she stopped and turned to him with her hand on the door. She bit back her retort and shut it, not wanting to get into what happened months ago when her bladder was about to burst.
“I know they found the problem but they had to be looking at your gallbladder for a reason right?” he called from the other side of the door. “And what about kidney stones? Those are common in pregnancy. Wait... could it have been a contraction?!”
“FOR GOD’S SAKE LIAM, LET ME PEE IN PEACE!”
