I adore Super Mario Galaxy (Game & Movie)

I just finished the main boss fight of Super Mario Galaxy at the center of the universe. It's been years since I've even played the game since my Wii died. It was glorious. I cried for a good few minutes as the end sequence played.

I loved the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. If I'm to be honest, I don't think the movie did the game justice. I think you could've made a much better movie based on a game such as this. However, the movie is still awesome. It's fanservice to the max and I am a fan who is serviced.

(I've heard people say that there's absolutely 0 plot and I disagree. I think the Super Mario Galaxy movie had a pretty neat plot and great characterization, even if it's not how the characters are in the game.)

I think that the beauty of Super Mario Galaxy is a point that has been explained by enough people, but I'll still give a short description a try.

These videos, that I only discovered pseudo-recently, (imperfectly) encapsulate my feelings about this game.

A lot of my feelings around this game are based on abstract autistic vibes. But for concrete things (which in my mind are enhanced by the more abstract feelings) is the look of pretty much everything in the game, with a special focus on the Comet Observatory itself and the Power Stars. The power stars are absolutely beautiful. As a kid, I was too young to understand, too young to truly see all the details in the sparkle of them.

My brain always assumes underlying context, fills in gaps. Rather, when it sees gaps, it declares that there's something in those gaps. Something, some purpose, something beautiful. I can't quite describe it...

I cried when finishing the run, and I am on my way to 100%ing it like my child self never could.

(I find it an enigma that I like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Odyssey where both of them star a non-furry main character. I wonder just how I would feel about either of the games if it would've starred a fox instead)
