In chapter seven, Can’t Just Do That, I had the confrontation between Raph and Donnie hit a boiling point. So, here’s the beta version... from Mikey’s POV, before I even added the missed phone call as a plot point.
“Well, I’m sorry that I’m looking for my brother!” Donnie was screaming in Raph’s face. “Why don’t I just lay down and take a nice long nap while Leo is who knows where!”
“You haven’t slept in four days, Donnie, what am I supposed to do—“
“Just let me work, it’s not that hard—“
“You know I can’t just let you do that to yourself! I’m not only worried about Leo here!”
Mikey pressed himself against the wall outside of Donnie’s lab. He squeezed his eyes shut, and slid down so he could rest his head on his knees. They were arguing again, they had kept arguing, and Mikey didn’t know what to do to make them stop.
Suddenly there was a slamming sound, followed by glass breaking. “Must be nice, being able to just go to sleep and forget about this,” Donnie snapped. “But some of us can’t just do that!”
Silence.
“Raph, that was… I’m… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“Go to sleep, Dee,” Raph muttered. “I think you need some rest.”
Mikey shrank back as his eldest brother stepped out of the room, sniffling as he rubbed both hands over his face. Were those- were those tears in his eyes? Mikey hesitated, fluttering indecisively between drawing fully into his shell and hugging his brother. The latter won out, and he hesitantly approached the distraught snapping turtle.
Raph stiffened, evidently surprised to find his brother hugging him. “Mikey,” he said. “You… uh, heard that, huh.”
He nodded.
