Aerin couldn’t explain how she ended up here. Just like most things in her life, it was part of a series of messy circumstances that weren’t even that complicated. Bad decisions, bad things just fell into her life like she was a magnet for them. It was probably for the better. Their city wasn’t the safest and Zander had met a few of its least desirable people. At least here there was a roof over her head, people who had her back or tried to. She worked, kept her head down, and got to mess with any computers they brought in. She wasn’t happy but it was something and it kept her hands busy. More importantly it kept her head busy. Usually she stayed out of whatever else went on. This wasn’t her world and the people in charge here knew that. But today, they came barreling down into the basement of the house she was usually busy working in. Aerin pulled the big headphones she was wearing off, the loud music still ringing beside her head where they hung. “Jesus,” she muttered. But as she turned around, the loud ruckus of footsteps wasn’t the only thing she was met with. Three of the guys whose names she barely knew were holding someone, short with a bag on their head and their wrists tied. They shoved them into a chair and pulled the bag away. Aerin froze, a lump in her throat blocking her from breathing. This was a lot, even for these guys. Usually they were the petty theft type. Getting her to hack gift card systems and unlock stolen iphones. This... that was a girl. “Don’t let her go anywhere.” One of them ordered, although with the way the girl was tied, Aerin didn’t think she had to worry about that. She nearly protested. There was something like a what the fuck is going on on her lips but she didn’t say it. Maybe this was an enemy. Maybe it was someone who had caused them some sort of problem. She didn’t know. But Aerin still stared, wide eyed at the girl that had maybe accidentally just become her hostage.
