✨ In Western Society it becomes very easy to answer the question “Who am I?” with occupation, role (mother, son, caregiver), or any other way in which we can identify and connect with our external circumstance. We are great at what we "do." We receive accolades and honor for our hard work - and rightfully so. It fills us with an uncontrollable sense of happiness and pride and we deserve to feel good. For some of us the feeling is so intense that we become obsessed with reward and burn ourselves out, forgetting where unbound joy is truly found. We fall into a pit and can't escape how the outside world defines us. We forget to honor the most important and impactful part that exists, the internal. We get to the root of pure self identification once we remove layers of our perceived selves and journey deeper. The first step in pure identification is to omit who we are through the eyes of society. Yes, I am a woman, mother, lover, friend and teacher, but these are only extensions of the answer to the question, "Who am I ?" When we measure our worth by status (i.e. job, income, marital status, etc.) we become detached from Purusha, cosmic self. When we are stripped of all of the things on the outside, what do we have? Who are we then? Take a moment to reflect, yogis. Until next time..
