Hi! I know you're not a professional, but my mom says I have ADHD, I have researched it a lot and taken online test and a lot of stuff, I'm like 99.9% sure I'm ADHD, I asked my mom if I could get medicated for it and she kind of laughed at me, she says ADHD medications are only for really little kids. What is your opinion? I have a really hard time paying attention in class and doing homework because of it, coupled with a few other things. I'm 15, would it be weird to get on meds now?
cosmosii, my friend, no, it would not be weird. I started on medication when I was 20. I’m 26 now and still on meds.
Adult ADHD is a very real thing. While some people grow out of it when they hit puberty, the rest of us are not so lucky and the ADHD is a pretty permanent thing. Meds in combination with coping mechanisms like time management tools and good reminder systems can be great for adults or teenagers like yourself.
Plus there are some people who don’t realize they have ADHD until their 50s or later. And I’ve read success stories about those people trying meds for the first time and it being helpful.
ADHD medication isn’t limited to kids. It’s for everyone at any age that might need it.
