i have an absolutely evil voice in my head every time i consider fixing my mic wig telling me to try making a new, improved 1 w the knowledge i learned last time, ignoring the fact that the most important lesson learned was that making it fucking sucked skdksk

this is a callout post for mic’s hair. what the fuck.
don’t mind me just spray painting my mic cosplay speaker in the parking lot at midnight,,
oh also the only reason my cosplay worked was bc of some rainbow suspenders from Claire’s.
so let’s be clear: the mic wig is more of a wearable sculpture than wig. a horrible creation out of foam, 2 separate wigs, hairspray, & hot glue. anyway, we ended up having a lot of trouble getting it to… stay on my head. this monument to human hubris wanted to topple over backwards.
we tried so many different things. attaching the wig with ribbons to my wig cap (it just pulled it off). getting a new wig cap (still falling). pinning the wig cap (the wig is simply too powerful to be bested by ordinary means). attempts to make the foam more stretchy around the bottom (nope). cutting up a paper model to see if there was a way we could make some Incisions to get it to be a bit looser & more forgiving (also no but we get points for making a model instead of attacking the wig head-on).
just, nothing worked. it still wanted to topple over, taking my wig cap, ribbons, & all our pins with it.
what we did find, though, is that our little ribbons attached inside the wig, when ya held em DOWN w enough force, it would stay on my head. But I’m not going to walk around holding 2 ribbons on the side of my head like bicycle handles.
so I said. hmm. wonder if there’s a way we could attach these ribbon straps to something that’s not the wig cap. something lower, more secure. my ears? hell no. my jacket? Eh, no, maybe not. making this a chinstrap helmet sort of situation also not ideal, but not out of the question at this point. But then. I received the question: …do you have suspenders?
dear readers the singular pair of suspenders I own are in fact rainbow. i did get them from Claire’s in high school. we thought fuck it. why not try attaching the wig….to the suspenders. it’s not like it’ll work right? it’s not like THIS will be the one thing we try that will work, right? so i dug those out from the bottom of my drawer.
anyway yeah that’s the only thing we found that worked. ribbons, secured inside the wig near my ears, hanging down to be safety-pinned to rainbow suspenders, concealed by my leather jacket & the big collar we made. So I’ve just got. Straps. Living on the side of my head/neck. & this utter feat of engineering is flexible enough it doesn’t restrict my head movement, bc suspenders are stretchy. & w the headphones & massive collar, we got away w it too. it honestly was not that noticeable.
we really weren’t sure if we could pull the wig off but the most…wild solution, sure enough, was the one that worked for me. my mic wig stays on my head bc of some rainbow suspenders from claire’s.
genuinely so fascinated by the mechanics of your mic wig. my first thought upon seeing the initial pic you posted of it was “holy shit i can’t believe you got that to be functional.” like obviously i watch the series, but i didn’t fully realize just.. how much hair mic has + how extreme of an angle mic styles it at 😳
i’m so glad it turned out so well for you!! thanks for sharing the process with us + congrats on it turning out so well. i hope today is going great for you✨
YEAH it was a challenge, that's for sure! A lot of time + trials & error. But honestly I had a ton of fun with it & lots of folks thought it was really cool. Worth it :) I'm really glad I was able to get it to work.
Mic has a ton of hair layered v unusually & some magical hair products from the future to get it like that & have it still be flexible lol. Love that for him.
