Cosplay on a Budget

Hi everyone, so I’ve been on Facebook cosplay pages and I’ve seen a lot of people wondering how much it costs to do cosplay.  So I’m going to run down how I try and make my cosplays amazing but on a tight budget. So of my cosplays cost me around $400 to $500 dollars.This may work for some people but it might not go others.

Fabrics: Buying fabrics can be hard to get cheap and at good quality. There is a fabric store that I live close to where I can get good quality fabrics but sometimes it’s not cheap, the only way that I’ve been able to cut this price down is coupons when their filer comes with the newspapers. I have noticed that there are different brands of fabrics from different companies, some will be cheaper than other but could be the same type of quality. Also another way to save money on fabrics is saving the left over fabrics from another cosplay that you did.

Wigs: Wigs can be very hard to find in person unless you have all season Halloween type store close to you. Wigs can be a bit pricey due to shipping cost, high quality wigs and heat restricted fibers on the wig. Personally, I go to EBay to find my wigs. When I look on EBay, I filter to free shipping. Also, I check out the prices and reviews on the seller to make sure that I will be getting what I ordered from them. The prices that I’ve gotten a few wigs for is between 25 to 35 dollars.

Makeup: Makeup can be cheap or pricey depending on where you go like Walmart, or Sephora. With makeup, I like to try and use colours that I can use for my personal life and for other cosplays. This has saved me a lot of money besides trying to buy makeup for every different character I’m doing. Also another way to save money is to buy other multi-colour eye shadow trays, that way you have many different colours for a single price. Eyeliner, foundation, and mascara, you can get cheap at Walmart for like 5 to 15 dollars.

Shoes: Now this is where I have problems saving money on, the reason why is I can’t find the shoes I need for that cosplay. So I try to find it online (EBay or Amazon) but it never works out because my shoe size is very small. Sorry about this.

Eye Contacts: So this is my tip on getting contacts, don’t go cheap because you won’t want to hurt your eyes. You can get these from your eye doctor or some good company that has great quality contacts.

Jewelry: you can make it or buy it, it depends on what you want to do with this. I like making a lot of things myself to try and make look similar like the game or anime/manga.
