SELF-PARAGRAPH: Hero of the Day - Charlie’s Sacrifice
It was his choice to be in this position, to give one of the other Cirque members some more time away from this kind of pain. For Charlie, he wasn’t foreign to being beaten and tortured to this extent. All of the bullying, the electroshock therapy his parents put him through...it was easy. This was easy. He could handle this and he wouldn’t break. He’d let them do what they could to him, just as long as they didn’t hurt the others while he could delay it.
Tears rolled down his cheeks as he eyed the items these men had, his cage already lowered and ready for them to rip him out of it. The spirits were starting to shove through them, to protect Charlie, but he shook his head, telling the spirits to let them do it. It would buy others time. He could hear the two people he delayed yelling for him not to do it. No, his mind was made up.
With the cage door being shot open with a gun, the man grabbed him by the elbow and dragged the Necromancer out. He couldn’t use his ability just yet, knowing they charmed him so he wouldn’t be able to. They just didn’t know that he could still see and hear those spirits. Groaning softly when they dropped his arm, he looked over at the devices and knew, oh he knew, how much pain he was going to be in. Turning his head and looking into their eyes, he smiled weakly before speaking. “It’s better than watching you guys go through it before me.”
Before he could turn to look at them, he felt a slam of a boot against his back and then a fist in his hair. A whine came out of him that rivaled that of a puppy. With eyes shutting tight, he turned to look at them with a rather blank grin that seemed to show that Charlie’s mind had checked out. “Is that all you’ve got?” He egged on, watching the hunter grimace in irritation. “I’ve felt headaches worse than that!” Charlie insulted, laughing rather breathlessly as the man slammed a wooden bat against the the Necromancer’s chest.
He couldn’t talk for a moment, his eyes slowly roaming around the room but he held on, his grin turning dark as he remembered all of the shit his family had put him through. Oh, he was perfectly normal, not sane at all...but he sure as Hell knew that these men didn’t know it. A wicked grin came across his face, waiting for the moment for the man to come near him. Oh, it would be quite the feat.
Once he had gotten close enough to Charlie, to try and break his spirit through insults, the Necromancer’s wicked grin turned sinister and he grabbed the man by the shirt and bite hard enough at his neck to draw blood. Letting the guy shove him off, he laughed darkly and let the man wail on him as hard and for as long as he could.
Soon enough, the hunter was out of breath, his eyes burning with hate for Charlie. All the Necromancer did was laugh manically, his eyes blank with a distant mind as he ignored his own pain. His nose was broken, his eyes swelling from the punches while his slip bled from the large split in it. Bruises began to form on his neck and his chest, showing that he was choked but it was still not enough. Charlie’s relentless need to hold onto consciousness was driving the hunter mad...mad enough to pull out the electrodes.
That’s when Charlie’s laughter turned into panicked breaths. As the hunters grabbed him, they strapped him down to a wooden chair with charmed chains so he couldn’t use the spirits to get them off of him. Tears rolled down the Necromancer’s face, the obvious fear returning. “Nononono, please for God’s sake no!” He screamed out, but the hunters didn’t listen. Not at all.
Electrodes were taped down on him, the other hunters with bats and brass knuckles to beat Charlie into unconsciousness. He tried to hold on, tried to fight, but as soon as those electrodes were turned on and he was shocked, his scream that came out of him was blood-curdling. It echoed over the Cirque as he tried to keep his own soul in himself. Feeling a pair of brass knuckles hitting his mouth, he choked out a scream and spit blood out of his mouth quickly.
This went on for about thirty minutes...and the hunters had won. He was unconscious and shoved back into his cage before pulled up above the ground. At least he got what he wanted: to delay the pain and torture of those who welcomed him with open arms. Little did he know, though, this was only the first day of his torture. There was worse beatings to come.
