Probably one of the most subtle and low energy bits of house magic I’ve done has been enchanting a large cinnamon/clove/orange scented jar candle and taking it over to the house me and my family are fixing up.

Like it’s both a practical use thing and a magical use thing.

Practical in the sense of helps clean out the smell of a mice infestation and sometimes you need fire to melt things when you are doing home renovations.

Magical in the sense of cinnamon, clove and orange are good for cleansing, protection and like happiness. So when the candle is burning it is like resetting the house, and making it comforting and protective to me and my own.

And like, I just offer to be the one who lights the candle whenever we go to work over there. That gives me a chance to reinforce the original enchantment every time the candle is lit.

It’s all just very chill, very low stakes and no one around me needs to know that I’m doing magic.

Cottage Witch Tips

Not only are simmer pots low energy magic that smells great (and you can use the concentrate left over to wash your floors for double magic) - but it will also raise the humidity in your home in the winter which is good for you AND for your plants. It's now three days later and the humidity is still sitting at 70% in my kitchen and mid-60s in the living room that is partially open to the kitchen. (it was fluctuating around high 40s to low 50s beforehand).

I also added Garden Witchery, Cottage Witchery, and Book of WItchery by Ellen Dugan to the catalog. These were some of the first books I read over a decade ago that seem to deviate from other books on witchcraft I was reading and really showed that you could do things in a way that suited you. My personal practice has moved away from that presented in these books, but I still find value in them so I added them to the catalog.
