Happy Saturday, and a big exciting reminder that we are just 24 hours away from our submit box closing! We’ve already received more apps that we could have imagined, and we know there are some of you still out there working hard to get them in before tomorrow evening! So, as a special treat for everyone who’s been with us on this journey, we did a tarot reading for how our first event is going to go using a theatrical spread and reading style courtesy of the wonderful Admin Div! It’s just below the cut for your pleasure and entertainment.
For everyone who still has questions, please know our inbox is open and we’ll be as available as possible in the coming hours!
I chose this four-card spread inspired by theatrical story arcs because I thought it would be best for laying out the event ahead of you all, and because I like a little flair for the dramatic. Please enjoy!
Act I, The Page of Cups: A new circumstance has unfolded, presenting an opportunity. For what, is entirely up to you. This moment is one of intense emotional turmoil and requires that you trust your intuition. Look for synchronicities and signs from nature that will guide you on your path. They may come from unexpected places, or they may not even make sense to your rational mind; be open to the possibilities and be ready to discover new aspects of yourself.
Act II, The Three of Wands: A nobleman watches his ships sail out to sea while he remains behind. He knows that success depends on being in the right place at the right time, and for the present, his place is on land. His merchant sailors and explorers will undertake his quests for him for the time being. There may come a time when he sets out into the wider world himself, and that thought contents him for now. Because this act concerns people influencing the problem ahead, it may be wise to consider this card indicative of those interested in taking over management or leadership positions, or in some way positioning themselves for something bigger than what is already available to them. Are you seizing the opportunity presented in the first act—or is it up to you to keep an eye on those who are?
Act III, The Emperor, reversed: The plot twist comes in the form of a call to action: assess your relationship with power, control, authority, responsibility and discipline. Are you expressing too much or too little of these elements in your life right now? Are they working for you or against you? The card can suggest an over-use and abuse of authoritative power surrounding you, or from within you. Are you asserting your power and dominance in a way that leaves others feeling powerless? Or are you giving away your personal power to please someone else? Should you bow to this authority, or stand up and break away for your own freedom? Perhaps this is where the players in Act II show their true colors, and you must decide whether to allow them to move forward, or to step into their path.
Act IV, The King of Swords, reversed: The King of Swords, brilliant and formidable, sits, and he waits. His sense of timing allows him to succeed where more impetuous opponents fail. Though it may seem as if he is passive in his quiet watchfulness, never underestimate him. He has hidden weapons and will strike when the moment is most advantageous for his plans—even if his plans put others in danger. Although this King may be alluring and intelligent, he can do only harm. He has only his personal interests in mind and will do whatever he can to achieve these interests, even if it means taking advantage of you. Is this a warning to keep an eye on those around you? Perhaps one of the Councilors has let their ego take the reins… Or, could there be some other threat lurking just beyond your vision? The lesson you must learn: be wary of feeling lost or uncertain about how to proceed under these circumstances, and try not to panic—that may be exactly what he wants.
Is the arc of this event going to open a new path for your character, or lead to as-yet-unprecedented conflict? We can’t wait to find out!
What drew you to the Strength card in Arcana?? Which part are you most excited to play??
Good question! I love the idea that there are different kinds of strength and I’m eager to explore that a bit. The bio gives the idea of this stupidly brave person with a “ready, fire, aim” sort of mentality and thirst for adrenaline. That’s somewhat contrasted by their compassion and optimism and I just loved the idea of this sort of happy-go-lucky wild child who’d prefer to solve the council’s arguments with a game of paintball rather than a well-structured debate.
If you play D&D, it’s the same sort of draw as rolling a high wisdom/charisma, low intelligence character and getting to explore how that comes out.
Name & Introduction: Hi, I’m Stevie, and I’m tired. In like, a general sense.
What’s your sign? Do you believe in astrology?: I’m a Gemini w/ my moon in Scorpio and honestly, it makes sense. I haven’t actually too much thought into it? But all the little tumblr posts with descriptions are a big mood.
If you had one magic power, what would it be?: I always liked the idea of metal manipulation? Or like, talking to animals. Talking to my cats would solve a lot of my problems.
What’s your favorite trope to write?: Hmm, that’s a good question. I like the self-righteous villain or the cinnamon roll. For awhile I just wrote villains straight across the board, but I also just like to write the goofs, someone who had a great prophecy thrust upon them and they’re like can you not. But I also like enemies to lovers, that one is fun. The rebel with a cause is another!
What is your favorite tarot card?: I do tarot readings for myself and friends, and when I draw the Tower, it’s always exciting. I’m also partial the Star.

Anything else? :) who’s ready for some pipin’ hot pain??
“Fear is dangerous, not the tarot. The tarot represents the spectrum of the human condition, the good, the evil, the light, and the dark. Do not fear the darker aspects of the human condition. Understand them. The tarot is a storybook about life, about the greatness of human accomplishment, and also the ugliness we are each capable of.”
