MARY LEE: So… the time has finally come, yes? Our final confrontation?

MARY LEE: I am not surprised. It only seems like it was yesterday when I was deemed a social outcast by the live, spoken words of a hundred men and women. Not one person would ever show me true love or devotion again…

MARY LEE: …Then I turned to witchcraft, so I could change all of their opinions of me… love potions, makeover spells, cheerleader sacrifices… none of them worked more than squat. Then I found the wand that contained Count Graduon.

MARY LEE: He promised to help me seek revenge on all who shared love… if I cannot be loved, no one would. So I built in the fake college to bring in and brainwash foolish individuals to do my bidding. And now they are themselves again; out of my grasp, thanks to you and your Electric Hedgehog.

MARY LEE: Your stubborn, dumb sweetheart search irritated me among all others; you kept going with such a strong will and spirit. I had no such will or spirit. I also realized that there was still one man who goes unpunished of my hatred… the Count.

MARY LEE: I will fight you with my power alone. Plese do your will and unleash the Count for me to punish another day. Do it, Christian Weston Chandler.

SFX: Smash!

Chris just waltzes into Mary Lee’s office at the Private Villa of Corrupted Citizens - we’re apparently meant to assume Mary had zero people following her out of a genuine dedication to her or her cause, so she has no bodyguards whatsoever. She seems somewhat resigned to her forthcoming, final defeat - her dialogue makes it seem like she thinks she’s out of options and she’s sick of working with Graduon, she just wants to end her feud with Christian with one, last, fair fight with Christian. 

Before the fight begins, Mary Lee offers up her whole backstory, heretofore untold. Many years ago, she was much like Chris is now - a pariah among her peers and without someone to love. She then turned to the dark arts with the hopes that it would give her all she ever wanted - using love potions to seduce those who would not love her, makeover spells to make herself more beautiful with the hopes that it would sway others, and, of course, all this dark magic isn’t free, and Mary had more than enough enemies, mostly cheerleaders, who would make perfectly good human sacrifices to keep the evil power flowing. Yet Mary was unsatisfied - possibly explaining her continued lack of a sweetheart throughout the rest of the comic - so she decided to use Count Graduon. What exactly he offered that she didn’t already have is unclear, it’s possible that his magic, or possibly his magic combined with Mary Lee’s, was stronger than whatever she had. She also explains the origins of the PVCC - it wasn’t always an organization with the sole goal of keeping Chris’s pickle as far from china as humanly possible, it was just Mary Lee trying to see how many people she could brainwash, without any long-term goal in mind. 

But when Chris walked through the door of the PVCC, he swiftly earned Mary’s fury, with his dedication to his love quest. Why she didn’t just brainwash his romantic dreams away is a total mystery. Was Chris’s mind too strong to be brainwashed? Either way, Mary saw a lot of herself in Christian, but unlike her his heart was uncorrupted, and he did not turn to dark magic, so she took it upon herself to punish him for having a stronger moral compass than her.

Suddenly, Mary turns her fury towards Count Graduon. She orders Chris to smash Graduon’s staff, freeing herself from his servitude though also losing his power. Now, the only other time in the eight issues we’ve seen Mary Lee and Graduon working together, the only other time we’re shown any indication that they don’t totally get along is in Sonichu 9, their most recent appearance. There, it seemed like Graduon was more fed up with Mary than Mary was with Graduon, almost killing her after she failed him once again. She claims that she wants Chris to smash the staff so she can “punish [Graduon] another day”, but all this does is it frees Graduon, which doesn’t seem to have any negative effects on his power, so now Graduon is free to do whatever he wants when he wants now that he is freed of his wand prison. This seems like an incredibly poorly thought out choice - the ultimate evil in all of Sonichu, where all other evil (except maybe some of the trolls) originates from, and you’d think at least Mary Lee, who has worked closely with Graduon for years, would know that this would set him free, but no. But, from a meta perspective, this decision leaves the door open for future issues of Sonichu to not be completely devoid of conflict. In Sonichu 10, Chris writes out all of his troll enemies, mostly by killing them off, and here he’s writing out Mary Lee, giving her what he deems to be a fitting send off for his most active foe. But he also wrote out Naitsirhc at the beginning of Sonichu 10 by making him straight - this was originally supposed to be the end of his character arc (but even Chris thought that was anticlimactic, so in Sonichu 12 Nait became a villain once again, now explicitly under the wing of Graduon). Chris’s original plan for Sonichu 11, before it sat on ice for more than half a decade, was to have Sonichu and crew fighting Graduon and his forces, led by a reanimated Metal Sonichu. While Graduon and Metal Sonichu were incorporated into the final Sonichu 12, Chris’s revisitings of Sonichu in 2017 and 2019 were largely written around Chris’s current situations and desires, and had new foes. That said, Chris has always kept the idea of doing a Graduon issue, which would contain his backstory, on the back burner - up until recently, this was designated to be Sonichu 14, until that became an issue focused on the apparently forthcoming Dimensional Merge, now the Graduon issue is slated to be Sonichu 16 (not to be confused with the Idea Guy issue, which was recently redesignated as its own issue between Sonichu 12-9 and Sonichu 14).

Also, for reasons unknown Mary Lee’s breasts are gigantic in panel six, even by her standards. I’d say that was a coincidence or possibly a mistake in perspective, but we do have precedent for Chris sexualizing his most hated rival.

SONICHU: Well, as a hero, I could not help but to answer her cry. Besides which, the true final blow on that witch belongs only to Christian. Now, let’s help put the city back together, then let’s head home for dinner and “Mary Poppins” with our children.

Let’s be clear here - Sonichu retreated. No one said that Mary Lee accepted defeat until she said she accepted defeat. Mary Lee was just saved by Sonichu, then he ran away, and then she said “I’m going to throw in the towel”. And despite the fact that Graduon just said that he was more than okay with letting Mary fall to her death, she tells Graduon to make a bubble, they’re going home. Graduon even ominously states “she’ll fall soon” - but Graduon, you’re carrying Mary several hundred feet above the ground. Unless removing this psychic bubble at this height would be liable to kill you too, why don’t you take the opportunity to kill her right now? Nevertheless, we’re meant to take away from this that Graduon and Mary’s formerly solid relationship is now on the rocks and their partnership will soon come to an end.

As an inverse of the earlier scene where Sonichu caught the unconscious Rosechu, Rosie returns the favor by catching Sonichu. She questions why Sonichu didn’t let Mary fall. He answers with the expected “I’m a classical, bleeding-heart hero who saves friend or foe”, with the added note that he believes he shouldn’t be the one to finish off Mary Lee, rather since this has been Christian’s vendetta all this time, only he has the motive to do her serious harm.

Team EHP gathers at the bottom of the screen, and Sonichu says that they’ll put in an appearance at the cleanup, then head on back to watch Chris’s favorite film, Mary Poppins, with his three children, seen here for the first time. From left to right (and oldest to youngest) we have Cerah, Christine, and Robbie. The three will get more individual characterization in the issues to come, but until they evolve, the three are just there to be cloying. Cerah is the only one of the three without a common name, though it’s assumed that she’s named after one of the many Sarahs in Chris’s life, most likely either Sarah Hammer or Sarah Cassandra McKenzie (Pandahalo). Christine’s name is a bit more obvious, and in fact Tomgirl Chris would later share the same name. Robbie was likely named after Chris’s father, or possibly the titular character from Chris’s second favorite film, The Adventures of the American Rabbit, Robert Rabbit, or less likely Robert Simmons V.

ROSECHU: Oh my God! She’s starting her chant. Oh my God. What a mess this lot looks like.

SONICHU: Stay here, Rosey, I’m heading up.

MARY LEE: What?

SONICHU: Eh… witch doc, you got a vaccum cleaner?

Mary Lee’s psychic-power-removing chant bizarrely consists of nonsense phrases and words. Like Nait’s embarrassing ultimate move name, you’d think that people would choose less stupid nonsense phrases than the ones Chris came up with. Meanwhile, Sonichu and Rosechu arrive on the scene and decide that it must be time for the final battle. Sonichu tells his beloved to stay out of trouble as he goes to confront Mary Lee alone. The bottom half of the page seems to reenact what Sonichu was doing on this issue’s cover - that is, pulling Mary Lee’s broom right out from under her.

Sonichu’s final line seems to be reminiscent of Bugs Bunny, and the description of Mary Lee Walsh as a witch doctor (taking the place of Bugs Bunny’s catchphrase “what’s up doc”) might be a reference to the 1958 novelty hit “Witch Doctor”, commonly misattributed to Alvin and the Chipmunks (technically the original 1958 release was credited only to future Chipmunks handler David Seville, voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Sr. Following the success of “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)”, Bagdasarian Sr. as both Seville and all three Chipmunks would release a Chipmunk version, and the song has been a recurring part of the Chipmunk canon ever since).

COUNT GRADUON: And with that, which was your first word, I dub thee, Silvana Rosechu. But my care for you, and your training has a small price. To better you, I am going to grant you with the power to transform, like a Ditto. My price is that you will have to relinquish your ability to give birth, and you will be upgraded to have both parts. So with the biological upgrade complete, your years of training can begin.

Narration: And so, from after birth, Silvana mentally and physically became a strong warrior under the wicked guidance from Count Graduon on the Earth’s moon. Without maternal guidance, and low social interactions, Silvana never learned to truly love, yet she (or he) learned to flirt without emotions. I can only take pity on this unlucky soul.

Graduon’s master plan includes giving Silvana shapeshifting powers. I suppose this isn’t a bad idea to round out his team’s powers, since his main modus operandi with working with Mary Lee is to attack Chris head on with brute force and numbers, adding a character that could work well as an intelligence agent could do Graduon well, although we don’t exactly know when Graduon and Mary Lee began to work with one another. Graduon implies that these transformation abilities are unique to Silvana among EHPs.

Graduon compares these abilities to that of a Ditto’s, a normally Normal-Type purple blob that can transform into whatever Pokemon it faces in combat. A Ditto’s other noteworthy characteristic is its ability to breed with any Pokemon that can breed, and it’s the only way to obtain eggs in game of a genderless but breedable Pokemon like a Metagross or a Rotom or  when the player only has a male of the species they are trying to breed. Despite the Ditto’s notoriety of being the best breeder in the game, Graduon tells Silvana that the transformation powers he gives her will cause her to become sterile.

Also for no particular reason, Graduon makes the formerly purely female Silvana a hermaphrodite; I believe the panel on the left shows Graduon outfitting Silvana with male genitalia (ew.) What exactly this gains either of them is completely unknown. You’d think that when she transformed into someone who isn’t a hermaphrodite, like Bubbles for instance, her genitalia would transform into whatever the subject’s genitalia was (in this case she would only have Bubbles’s female genitalia while transformed as her). I suppose Graduon was just preparing her for transforming into multiple different bodies, men’s and women’s, but that still doesn’t make any sense. By that logic, she would have trouble transforming between species as well. Later she transforms into Meg Griffin and has no difficulties living without a tail, for instance. Now, out of universe, Silvana was retconned into being a hermaphrodite to symbolize Chris’s troll sweethearts, who were mostly men pretending to be a woman, so Silvana became a woman who secretly had male genitals. But to Graduon, her transformation to a hermaphrodite made no sense.

Silvana here is described as a pure Psychic-Type. Silvana and Simonla are the two hedgehogs Chris has somewhat bounced around on regarding their typing. Here she is portrayed as a Psychic who uses her powers to manipulate people’s minds. Later in Sonichu 9 she uses Shadow Ball, a Ghost-Type attack, but in Pokemon you aren’t necessarily limited to attacks of your type. She also says that she can’t make a spark later, which would seem to roll with what’s presented here that she’s not an Electric-Type (despite being an Electric Hedgehog Pokemon) but again you can still be an Electric-Type without knowing any Electric-Type moves. Later revisions would throw around the idea of her being a Dark-Type (which would make sense, since while she has similar abilities to Magi-Chan (and many Dark-Types can still learn some Psychic-Type moves) but she’s got more of an evil tinge to her and Dark-Types are strong against Psychic-Types), though throughout the comic proper Chris seems to stick with pure Psychic-Type.

Silvana’s ability is “Oblivious”, which in the Pokemon games makes you immune to the “infatuation” status, which is when a Pokemon of the opposite gender hits you with certain moves or has a certain ability, you fall in love with them and you can’t attack every other turn. In Chris’s reimagination of the concept outside of the context of turn-based combat, he means it to mean that she cannot fall in love.

COUNT GRADUON: Little one among many, I am Count Graduon, illustrious wizard, revered by all, more powerful than most. I have taken heart of you being born all alone on the Earth’s moon.

COUNT GRADUON: I am here to take you in my wing and rear you properly under my careful and wise judgement.

SILVANA: Sil… va… na…

COUNT GRADUON: I am well-practiced of a young lady, much like yourself; now she is a warrior princess, my beautiful Sylvia. I miss her every day since being ensphered in my wand of a prison cell. I only wanted to bring peace and order, but a Cherokian Chief sealed me in.

Graduon (I’m assuming) creates some sort of projection of his old human form and appears in front of this newborn to announce his adoption of her. Why he needs all this fanfare is unknown, as the only witness is the baby Silvana, who is too young to really care. It’s not like she has any parents that he’s taking her from, and it’s not like he had to really do anything to adopt her as an adopted daughter. In fact he probably adopted her simply because no one else would be privy to this adoption and thus no one could object to him raising her to be a villain.

The origins of Silvana’s name are two fold (unlike Simonla though, Silvana is actually a real though uncommon feminine given name, a Spanish variant of Sylvia or Silvia), partly drawn from Silvana’s infantile babbling and partly in honor of an old flame of Graduon’s, Sylvia. Because the way the text bubbles are organized is weird (as always), we don’t know what exactly the proper origin is though - either Graduon speaks first and mentions how this newborn hedgehog reminds him of Sylvia and the baby Silvana tries to say “Sylvia” and mangles it into “Silvana” and Graduon goes with that as her name, or Silvana was babbling something that sounded like “Silvana”, which made Graduon get all nostalgic for his old friend and he named the baby in her honor.

This is the only info we’ve ever been given about this enigmatic Sylvia. Who is she? How was she connected to Graduon? When did she live/is she still alive? Is she superpowerful too? Chris has bounced around a bit on Graduon’s backstory. The earlier comics stated he was an ancient evil that the Cherokian and Wasabi Clans set aside their differences to trap in the wand we see him in today. This backstory seems to suggest that he (at the time) wasn’t a corporeal human but rather some sort of supernatural force, some evil woowoo that could wreak havoc until trapped into some sort of Pandora’s Box. This was still the backstory he was going with when he was writing this section, as evidenced by the last paragraph. Later, in 2015, for Graduon’s Amiibo packaging, Chris would give Graduon a different back story - Graduon was a medieval British count (note, however, that England has never used the title “count” in its nobility, rather, they use “earl”) who had a nasty Napoleon Complex and couldn’t get laid, so he went around being evil and harassing women. He was then executed, presumably for his villainous crimes, and then his ghost was trapped in the staff, until Mary Lee found it. The characterization here seems to be something of a middle ground between the two.

Yet Chris has never elaborated on this Sylvia. Strangely enough, Graduon refers to her in the present tense, and given that he can project himself from here to the moon, so I’m guessing that he probably has some form of omnipotence that allows him to watch over Silvana, which might mean that this Sylvia, wherever she may be, is still alive. Perhaps she is some sort of immortal? Again, I’m speculating endlessly on a character we were never supposed to meet.

Graduon also notes that he “only wanted to bring peace and order” before getting sealed away, which gives me three impressions that if Chandler were a better writer he might have elaborated on - either A) Graduon is more of a misunderstood villain than we give him credit for, someone who really does want to make the world a better place but keeps accidentally making dangerous mistakes, making the public at large hate him, painting him as a tragic hero, or B) Graduon is incredibly deluded into thinking he’s doing the right thing for the greater good by attacking Chris, or C) Graduon is an evil little bastard but he’s trying to make everyone think that he’s really misunderstood. Unfortunately, Graduon’s just not that deep a character.

Here we see the first inkling of what would become Chris’s most famous fake game and the first one to not be Sonichu focused, Christian Weston Chandler’s Adult Chronicles. Plot wise it would seem to be similar to the Sub-Episodes - Chris fighting valiantly, with Sonichu and Rosechu serving mostly as backup, against Mary Lee Walsh and her band of evil jerkops and manajerks. For the longest time Chris was rather vague about what exactly the game would be like, until late 2017, about 9 years after he drew this, that Chris mentioned the game would be reminiscent of one of his new faves Life is Strange, a game I’m sure you will be able to find a lot about while browsing through this delightful website you’re currently viewing called Tumblr. Basically it’s a graphic adventure game where you can rewind time and it’s a fave of Chris likely because it’s also all about dykes dykes China. Presumably, in this fictional game of his, you would play as a third-person Chris who would explore Chris’s hangouts around Ruckersville and Charlottesville, interact with some of his friends (Chris singled out Megan and Anna McLerran) along with Sonichu and Rosechu and his parents, and fight off Mary Lee and the rest of Chris’s rogue’s gallery. A bit surprisingly the way Chris talked about the game in his “An Important Update” he implied that the final boss fight would be between him and his “Dark Half”, likely referring to Reldnahc and the climactic showdown between him and Mary Lee would happen earlier.

Chris hasn’t been the hero behind the hedgehogs in about five issues. Chris has been the hero in front of the hedgehogs, eclipsing them entirely.

Interestingly, this page’s reference to Mary Lee, even in the CWCipedia retconned comics, was never changed to Slaweel.

The cover shown on the game boxes themselves shows what appears to be the ending of the game - Chris stands victorious, the 4-Cent-Garbage symbol underneath his foot, the EHPs beside him. Strewn across his backyard are symbols representing Chris’s main foes in the comics: from top to bottom we have Naitsirhc’s blue goggles (from his original outfit), the smashed sceptre of Count Graduon, left slumped on its side like a discarded ice cream cone, the Jerkief’s delicious wooden badge, the severed mechanical sword arm of the Merried Seinor Comic, Mary Lee’s cracked hair devil horns helmet, and what appears to be the Robotnik medallion from Sonichu 1.

Shown above the games themselves are the two consoles Chris would develop this game for, Sony’s Playstations 2 and 3 and Nintendo’s Wii. One of the many facets to Chris’s unbreakable brand loyalty is his undying love for the consoles of Nintendo and Sony and hatred of those produced by Microsoft. Dubbed by him as the “HEXBox”, he has never offered any real reasons for this dislike besides basic console wars reasons. During Chris’s childhood, he showed an equal distaste towards Sony’s consoles due to his infatuation with Nintendo and Sega’s consoles. After Sega left the console market in 2002, Chris filled that void with a cheaply bought PS1, and it and its successors has become his ally and lover ever since.

The rating in the bottom left, “M for Honest Content”, has become another meme among Christorians as a way of denoting NSFW Chris material on sites like the CWCki.

Soul Calibur is a series of fighting games that’s ideal for beating up representations of your foes like deans that tear up your signs or artists that draw pickles on your FEMALE characters. Chris’s favorite character is Cassandra Alexandra, for obvious reasons.

That legalese at the bottom was almost certainly copied directly from something. Here’s some fun trivia for ya - the phrase “All Rights Reserved” has been obsolete in America since 1989 due to the US signing on to newer international copyright treaties that don’t require copyright formalities like “All Rights Reserved” such as the Berne Convention, and it’s never been applicable to countries outside of North and South America like Japan, where Sega, Nintendo, and Sony all originate.

Megtune finishes off Mary Lee and Graduon, for much the same reason Patti and Darkbind knock her down - they’re what I’m calling Chris’s “characters of the week”. His featured characters do all the big action of the fight scene and get a starring scene while every other character gets pushed to the background. Chris wanted to reintroduce Darkbind, so he gets focus, he wanted to give Patti some spotlight since he’d just written her in, so she gets focus, and he still wanted to lionize Megtune so she gets to finish them off. Sure, none of them may be “leads”, but none of the leads are important this week, so off to the sidelines they go. This is one of the main reasons people give the Chaotic Combo flack, they were introduced like they were going to be a big deal then they got shoved to the side immediately to either let Chris hog all the glory, as was the case in the Sub-Episodes, or to let other characters Chris got way more interested in get the spotlight, like Darkbind in Sub-Episode 4 or Megtune in Episode 12.

“Magic Rocket’s bla[st]ing off again!” is a reference to Pokemon - when Jessie, James, and Meowth inevitably lose, they get launched through the air off into the sky with a twinkle and say “Team Rocket’s blasting off again!” Chris had a similar idea in mind for Mary Lee and Graduon, although they disappear into a tornado.

Mary Lee actually won’t be back with any more terror until Issue 9, by the way.

MARY LEE WALSH: Chris-Chan, if you ever want your sister back, you and your crew will bow down to me and surrender your hearts and soul upon my clutches! Ha-ha-ha!

COUNT GRADUON: Easy on my hadle, witch.

CHRIS (thought): Darn! She’s so high up… one wrong move, and Crystal may become worse than heart-shattered. What should we do?

Picking up right where Episode 13 left off, we join back up with Chris, Megtune, and the hedgehog crew to see Mary Lee and Graduon victorious for the first time. This is also the first time in which the opening explanatory segment is a necessity - Chris kind of envisioned Sonichu as a literal comic book where each “Issue” contained several “episodes” and would be published an issue at a time. Episode 13 was in the last “Issue” (5) and so this time the “Previously on Sonichu” thing was warranted.

It’s nearly impossible to tell because the line is drawn so thin and the colors blend in, but this page is divided into two panels diagonally from top left to bottom right, hence what looks like a perspective fail.

Speaking of the mirror being floating in the air, that’s based on mirrors from Sailor Moon that can float through voids.

Graduon’s “Easy on my [handle], witch” makes me think of this.

I’m certain everyone in the bottom panel, or at least Chris, Sonichu, and Rosechu, are all traced from something. Contrast that with the likely not traced Mary Lee; Chris has always put more “care” and “effort” into drawing his protagonists while his antagonists (with the possible exception of Reldnahc later in this chapter, who seems pretty traced) he slops together lazily. There isn’t nearly as much detail put into Mary Lee’s outfit as Chris’s or Megan’s, the two of them have multicolored outfits while Mary Lee has a flat purple shirt and a flat black skirt, and again, she has no feet.
