Thursday, June 29: Count Raven, "High on Infinity"

Count Raven was almost immediately called out for having very Ozzy-esque vocals, but Dan Fondelius’ warbling on High on Infinity’s title track didn’t really sound like overt worship or emulation.  The tune was also one of the few faster-paced and shorter numbers in their discography, as nearly everything else they recorded were generally super slow trudgers.  But “High on Infinity” had some snap and verve that brought the album to life and at least slightly diversified Count Raven’s approach.  For better or worse, the Swedish act maintained a consistent sound and feel for the better part of 30 years even with the requisite lineup changes, so the relative briskness of “High on Infinity” was a refreshing changeup.
