as someone who's gone through a coup attempt i genuinely don't know what to say other than stay safe and take some time off from social media, tv etc if you believe it'd be better for your mental health

While the insurrection was indeed quashed yesterday, and congress reconvened to count the electoral votes until 4am, I think what the anon was trying to say is that it’s still a big deal, and the major topic of discussion in the country at large tonight, rather than Michelle Gomez’s aversion to the word “feminist.” 

And not being from the US is a completely valid reason to not be still talking about it, or knowing a lot about it other than it happened yesterday. I feel like tumblr can be very USA-centric, and sometimes doesn’t acknowledge that plenty of people weren’t watching 6 hours of NBC live coverage (like i did) today.

because this is a positivity blog, i really won’t be posting about the coup in america but i do want to recognize it briefly

i live in massachusetts, which is in america but this area has a fairly low chance of these terrorists committing further acts near me. so i’m not very concerned for my personal safety at this time

things are going to get worse as these people have gotten proof that they’re allowed to do whatever they want, so i’ll be keeping an ear out to learn what the most at-risk communities need from allies. as a white goy i’m going to be following the lead of BIPOC and Jewish people and uplifting their voices rather than giving my own 2 cents for the most part

overall: black lives matter, Proud Boys are terrorists, look out for each other, and take a break from thinking about it if you have to

I have people in DC. I grew up in DC. My mom lives on Penn ave and the shit was going down right outside her window. I’m so fucking scared guys. I know ‘the worst’ is over but I’m still reeling. Couldn’t get hold of my mom at all yesterday but I heard from her this morning she’s okay.
