“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” -Ephesians 4:2
On Oct 14 & 15, hubby & I attended one of the activities of Couples For Christ: Marriage Enrichment Retreat at Hampton Inn Hotel. It is a 2 day, overnight retreat. It gears couples on how to serve God together as well as their roles as husbands and wives respectively.
It doesn’t mean that the couple is having difficult problems, that’s why they choose to attend the retreat, rather it is to enrich their relationship with God and God to be the centre of their relationship.
The retreat started at 6:30 AM of Saturday until 12:30 of Sunday. We had a total of 7 talks given by amazing speakers that really inspired us. The whole activity was fun especially we are with other young couples. We also had a fellowship night where we were able to dress up and celebrate love together. The husbands prepared handwritten letters to their wives which I found really sweet. 🙂 My personal favourite of the retreat is during praise and worship. I feel my heart is at peace when we offer praises to our Lord.
As a young couple, we are challenged to live a Godly marriage and to be better of our own selves in serving each other. The following are the key points that we learned during the retreat:
Respect, love, humility and communication are considered the pillars of a Christian relationship.
“Complementary rather than competition is the rule.”
PRAY. FAST. INTERCEDE.
“Love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for her.”
A wife is subordinate to her husband. (Eph 5:22-24)
The famous verse — 1 Timothy 2:12:
“11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet.”
“Communication to a relationship is like oxygen to life.”
“A kind answer soothes anger; while a cutting word increase wrath.” -Proverbs 15:1
These key points are just few reminders to have a lasting relationship with your spouse and God as well. Personally, I have learned a lot of things that I can pass along to my children in the future.
My husband & I are humbled and blessed to be part of the CFC community, as it keeps us on the ground and constantly reminds us that we are all children of God equally loved by Him. The community just exudes love everywhere in a sense that everyone is willing to step up to serve God.
