You've got a big group out in front in front of Visa's headquarters here in Foster City, right in front of a big VISA sign at one of the entrances. They are members of the Courage Campaign, UltraViolet, the Raging Grannies and Daily Kos.  They are here delivering petitions with more than more 144,000 signatures... demanding major credit card companies like VISA, and Mastercard and AMEX  stop doing business with retailers that sell assault rifles.

A simple demand:  Visa, don’t let people use a Visa credit card to buy weapons of mass murder.  We went to Visa’s Headquarters in Foster City, CA and made a bit of a ruckus, with an important message!

Raging Grannies Protested at Visa Headquarters Today

Since the Parkland School shooting, 24 companies have cut ties with the NRA. Payment processors like PayPal and Apple Pay have already banned the purchase of firearms for people using their services.

 Congress is failing to act to limit access to these weapons, but Visa has the power to act where Congress won't. They have a responsibility to respond to the tens of thousands of people who are demanding concrete action to limit gun violence," said Eddie Kurtz, Executive Director of Courage Campaign.   Raging Grannies joined Daily Kos, Ultraviolet, and the Courage Campaign to demand that Visa block the sales of assault weapons from customers using their credit card.  We chanted, we sang out, and we delivered a petition with 150,000 signatures to the powers-that-be at Visa Headquarters in Foster City, CA. on March 8.

Girls ages 14-17 addressed the issue of harassment on public transportation in a meeting with CTA officials.

Courage Campaign, an organization based in Los Angeles, thinks that they can move FIFA with a MoveOn petition.

I did write a comment on it. I see it on my browswer when I log in - it looks like this:

I don't know who or what to blame for my comment being visible by my account only, but it is either Facebook or Courage Campaign. If it is Facebook to blame, then fault them for having an algorithm that hides posts that have embedded URLs in them, suppressing the exchange of information. If Courage Campaign is responsible, fault them for being to thin skinned when critisized or to interested in playing C.M.A. when called out for being incompetant.

It's too bad that Courage Campaign has dumb and possibly insecure people employed: the world could use that organization being competant and effective. Shame on them for their apostasy.

I thought this was one of the most effective use of media in the fight against Prop 8. It just really laid out what marriage equality is really about very simply.

Vintage Viral Video Week Two: Day Three: 

Remember Michele Bachmann? The Courage Campaign certainly do. And their protest against the Republican right-winger had me thinking.

Before Barack Obama was re-elected in 2012, many people feared that Republican candidate Michele Bachmann might actually stand a chance of running against him for President of the USA. Her views were (and still are) fiercely conservative. She cited hurricanes and earthquakes as warnings from God for obesity and over-spending. She believes that the HPV vaccine causes 'mental retardation' in girls. And she's not a fan of the gays either, claiming that she felt 'demonised' for holding religiously-motivated homophobic views. One sandwich short of a picnic or is she missing the entire picnic basket? 

None of that's particularly happy news, so allow me to remind you of the courage of The Courage Campaign, who fearlessly protested Bachmann's extreme views with a frankly fabulous flashmob to Mad House's Like A Prayer outside the California Republican Convention. We don't know if Bachmann ever saw the video, but that's kind of irrelevant because 112,000 others did and she never made it into office anyway.

Oh, and while you're at it, why not watch (or re-watch) this hilarious video of comedian Kathy Griffin regaling the tale of when she met Bachmann on the set of a TV show during an election rally. Give particular attention to Griffin's a-grade, on the money rhetorical form of questioning: "were you born a bigot or did you grow into it?" And Bachmann's stunned-mullet response. Both are awesome, for entirely different reasons. 

So for every Michele Bachmann, there's a protest one hundred strong. And Kathy Griffin. Homophobes, you've got nothin'!
