It’s almost time to dance under the Libra Full Moon. Here are #SelfCareSunday No. 66 and #CourageousWednesday No. 65 for you. Thank you for your patience, loves 💗 I’ve been reformatting this public offering amidst massive transitions - heading back into office environments, sub-contracted work and into a new home (fingers crossed soon) and back to public performance (more on that international Afrofuturistic collaboration later). Thank Goddexx for the music, the yoga and the #DecolonialAlchemy for keeping me in harmony and rooted in Earth rhythm as I navigate busy-ness and the machine. I really enjoy making these mixtapes for me and then sharing with you all. It’s such an incredible practice in self love as a practice of collective love. I’m also enjoying featuring entire albums or one artist/producer per mixtape because listening closely is a beautiful experience of love in action. Every new moon and full moon (or there about) I put out two mixtapes. One is called #CourageousWednesday and it goes out today (“Australian” time). Each mixtape has a liner note, which I release in video format these days. The liner notes are deep dives into my mixtape creative process, focussing heavily on the philosophy and the politics behind the music and musicians whose work influences my art. . . These days, I’m choosing to feature one artist per mixtape. I go into the details why behind the scenes in Patreon. The slides I’ve included here somewhat touch on the issues I discuss candidly with my Patrons. . . My Patreon is a gathering space that I exclusively reserve for people who have known me or my work for at least one year. I also capped the numbers to sixty folks. This is because it takes real attention and energy to nurture relationships with folks in a deeply meaningful way. I mean the comments on socials are great but these interactions can become richer and more nuanced if we carve out the space and intention for that type of exchange. . . If you’re not (yet) ready for my Patreon, my newsletter is a great way to engage - I will ask you to pay for it and I trust that if you are reading it you are financially reimbursing me for my labour. We should always pay Black women and femmes for all of their labour 👁 regardless. . . What is success then? Maybe it is to live in the joy of unfolding into more of who I truly am and giving more of that unique energy to the world. Is success social approval, then? Tricky ... But, if I am honest and stand in my power, nobody else needs to understand my choices. I repeat nobody needs to understand or approve of my choices. As long as I am aligned and in harmony with the regenerative cycle of life, I’m good. I have to find the courage.
