Wow … that’s a decent number of listens for an independent podcast. 🥰 thank you for riding with me while I worked out exactly what I’m doing with this countercultural “in divine time” seasonal podcast. It’s almost time to dance under the Libra Full Moon. Here are #SelfCareSunday No. 66 and #CourageousWednesday No. 65 for you. Thank you for your patience, loves 💗 I’ve been reformatting this public offering amidst massive transitions - heading back into office environments, sub-contracted work and into a new home (fingers crossed soon) and back to public performance (more on that international Afrofuturistic collaboration later). Thank Goddexx for the music, the yoga and the #DecolonialAlchemy for keeping me in harmony and rooted in Earth rhythm as I navigate busy-ness and the machine. I really enjoy making these mixtapes for me and then sharing with you all. It’s such an incredible practice in self love as a practice of collective love. “The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed.” Steve Biko . . I must have been about eight years old when my dad took me and my sister to watch the biopic “Biko”. That’s when I became really aware of what was happening just over the border in South Africa with apartheid; and began to understand how that conflict was connected to the war in Mozambique. Perhaps we were a bit young to learn about this leader of the Black Consciousness Movement but what choice do parents have when footage of anti-apartheid violence is on the news everyday and in the papers? . . That bloody era ended in my teens but how did our minds hold up after the fact? Look, I’m not pointing fingers. I’m looking at the person in the mirror. Colonial trauma/intergenerational trauma is a thing. It shows up in self-sacrificing behaviour, amongst other things like adopting colonial definitions of “success”. I recognise that now.
