I like to think of today as Irish Heritage Day, all my ancestors are speaking in kind voices today, and not just the Irish ones. Our ancestors persevered through challenging times, our existence is evidence of that. Which brings me to potatoes. We’ve all heard of the hardships of the potato famine, My ancestors tell me I’m blessed today to have some potatoes. But how to store them so that they last? Not in the plastic bags they came in, those don’t breathe and will cause them to sprout, or rot sooner. Store unwashed potatoes in a cardboard box, you can layer shredded paper in between them and add some holes in the box for ventilation. Pull out any with bad spots and use them first, cutting away the bad spots before using. Put your box of potatoes in a cool dark spot in your home, basement, garage, or closet, the closer to 45˚F to 50˚F (7˚C to 10˚C) and 80-90% the longer they’ll last. Check them occasionally and pull out any bad ones. Potatoes are associated with the moon and earth magic, stability, and protection. All root crops are good for grounding and to heal the root chakra which is associated with feeling safe. During a time when we’re conserving food, I wouldn’t recommend using a potato as a poppet (as they often have used been traditionally) but if you end up with a rotten one you can slit it open and add a petition of something you want to banish like disease, illness, fear, and bury it in the ground to work it’s magic. #budgetwitch #kitchenwitch #prepared #justafewextras #courseofaction #stpatricksday #irish https://www.instagram.com/p/B910El1HXuf/?igshid=mui7xh4fw6qx
